Message from Dr. Ramirez
We are extremely excited to start the school year in person with students and staff. We are busy planning for a great school year. We truly enjoy being part of a student's journey through high school!
We are holding a series of student orientations this week and we will cap the week with a virtual (in real-time) Back-to-School-Night (BTSN) on Thursday. Our teachers are excited to share a little about themselves and provide an overview of each course. See the section in this newsletter for details.
As you know, we are experiencing a new challenge with the Delta variant. We had a very successful Plan B experience last spring and we expect to continue our health and safety efforts to keep everyone safe and sound. We will expect everyone to follow OCS guidelines. We will keep you posted on ongoing changes. Safety is everyone's business. To see OCS Back to School Health and Safety Updates, click this link.
You will notice two bell schedules in this newsletter: A First 10-Days Schedule and a Regular Schedule, which begins after Labor Day, on September 7th. You will notice two major changes this year to our schedule: Lunch and Flextime. To accommodate the new health and safety measures, we are holding 4 lunch periods. We hope to move to a 2 lunch period schedule when it is appropriate to do so.
We are starting the first 10 days with Ridge Time. We have much school business to conduct before we launch into the regular schedule. Beginning September 7, we will move to our regular schedule which includes Flextime.
Flextime will be used throughout the year as study hall, specialized classes (e.g. test prep, credit recovery), student clubs/organizations time, school assemblies, credit recovery, school spirit activities, Ridge Time (1x/week) tutoring. Having Flextime at the end of the day will prevent student-athletes from missing academic time. We are in a new athletic conference and many away games begin at 4:30 pm. Students will need to leave CRHS by 2ish. Regular attendance will be taken and students will receive narrative grades on participation, conduct, and attendance (not counted in GPA). All students will be expected to participate in Flextime and not leave campus. Your support is greatly appreciated.
I look forward to our partnership and hope all Red Wolves have a rewarding and successful year! I can be reached at carlos.ramirez@orange.k12.nc.us.
Best,
Dr. Ramirez
