Message from the Superintendent
We have one more month of distance learning this school year, and we are committed to continuously improving the experience for all involved. We are all focused on our students, and I would like to hear from them directly. Right now, one of our best ways to connect and make sure we hear as voices as possible is through surveys.
Please encourage your middle school and high school students to take the survey I emailed it to their LOSD Gmail accounts earlier this week.
If you have an elementary student, I would appreciate it if you would help them complete this survey designed just for kindergarteners through fifth graders.
Thank you.
Celebrating Our Teachers and Staff
Celebrating Our Nurses
In education and around the world, we are celebrating nurses. These heroes have always led with care and compassion, and now their courage is being recognized more than ever. We are extremely appreciative of our school nurses, and all nurses in our community and around the world. We are forever grateful for your service.
Community Rallies Around Hector
By far the most hopeful event of the week was the wonderful news about the LOSD employee who was the first in Oregon to test positive for Covid-19. Many of you may already know that it was Forest Hills building engineer, Mr. Hector Calderon. With the family’s permission, we are able to share that on Tuesday Hector was transferred to a rehabilitation center and is now well on his way to recovery.
We are overjoyed about Hector and his family and thankful to the heroic medical workers. Our community has rallied for Hector, and shown such care for him. Hector was able to share his gratitude in this touching video message.
Forest Hills is collecting cards on Thursday, May 14 to bring to Hector. You may send a message to Hector c/o Forest Hills Elementary School, 1133 Andrews Rd., Lake Oswego, OR 97034.
LMS Teacher Named PE Teacher of the Year
SHAPE America, the society for health and physical educators, announced that Todd Stoddard is its 2020 National Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year!
Todd teaches at Lakeridge Middle School. We are extremely proud of his accomplishments, his dedication and his commitment to students. Those who are selected to be part of SHAPE's program serve as top ambassadors for excellent, standards-based teaching in physical and health education and dance. It takes an extraordinary amount of dedication and commitment, as well as a mastery of certain skills and knowledge, to be selected as a National Teacher of the Year.
Congratulations Todd!

Elementary Family Tips for Seesaw
Hunger Fighters Modifies Pickup Times
Hunger Fighters, located on the Lake Oswego High School campus, has changed hours for its Saturday pickup to 1-3 p.m. The hours for pickup on Wednesday remains the same 4-6 p.m.
Clients who pickup groceries will receive perishable items as well such as produce, bread, dairy or eggs. Hunger Fighters cannot currently provide such items to delivery clients, but it is working towards that goal.
Hunger Fighters has started a delivery program for homebound, immunocompromised and at-risk individuals and families in Lake Oswego. Requests must be submitted by Thursday to receive a delivery of non-perishable groceries on Saturday. Visit the website and click the link to submit a request. www.hungerfightersoregon.org/delivery.html
Please Verify Your Student's Information
LOSD needs parents/guardians of all students enrolled for the 2020-21 school year to log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. If you tried earlier, the ParentVUE link is working now. This benefits both families and schools by:
- Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
- Allowing parents to review the health conditions on file at your student's school.
- Enabling distribution of electronic devices covered by the district's Technology Agreement
Family Resources for Distance Learning
Free Meals for All Students in Need
Emergency Childcare for Frontline Workers
Reminder: Outside School Facilities Closed
Until further notice, LOSD needs to follow executive orders that mandates school campuses remain closed through June 30. That includes school fields, tracks, courts and playgrounds. When the Governor's reopening plan includes athletic facilities, the previous mandate may relax and we may be able to reopen our facilities. Thank you for your continued cooperation for the safety and well being of all in our community.
Be Sure to Wear Face Coverings at School Pickups
With new guidance from the CDC, everyone involved in meal and device pickups, and other scheduled school visits, must wear face coverings.

SafeOregon
Parents who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources.
SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools.
(Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense.)
