AGCS Athletics Statement
Fall 2020
Dear AGCS Family,
We have received many inquiries about the fall athletics program at AGCS. We wanted to take a moment to address these questions.
AGCS is committed to student safety and returning students to in-person school as soon as possible. With this goal in mind, we will not be running any on-site group activities at the start of the school year. This applies to athletics, as well as many other extracurricular activities. Only activities and clubs that can be done virtually are allowed at this time.
Please know that we are doing all we can to act in the best interest of our students and families. We are aware that PIAA recently announced a plan to continue with fall sports, against the recommendation of the Governor. However, that does not change the decision made by AGCS to cancel fall sports. As you may or may not be aware, AGCS is part of the Mid-Atlantic Independent League; we are not a PIAA school. Our scheduled opponents are located in three different states - PA, DE, and MD. Along with AGCS, a handful of these schools have already cancelled fall sports programming.
This was obviously a difficult decision for all involved, but we do believe it is the best decision for our AGCS community at this time. Please know we are discussing a variety of creative options for including fall sports during the 2020-2021 school year: however, there are several variables that will determine if Fall sports are feasible. We will continue to communicate with the schools in our conferences and provide updates to athletes and families as we receive more information.
We appreciate your enthusiasm and support for our interscholastic athletics program, and we look forward to resuming the program as soon as possible.
A note about sports physicals: Physicals are good for the entire school year. They can still be e-mailed to Mr. McGehean or mailed to the AGCS office for future use.
Mrs. Bishop,
Head of School
Dr. Maitland,
9-12 Principal
Mr. McGehean,
