Recent Issues to Discuss With Your Student

Cardinal Families,

We have a few issues at school right now that are leading to some disciplinary issues that could lead to serious repercussions for students engaging in these behaviors.

We are sharing this information with our families in hopes that families can have these discussions with their students.

The first issue is related to students "pretending" to have guns or making shooting noises. This is happening frequently on the playgrounds and occasionally in hallways or classrooms. This type of play or even talk is not allowed at school under any circumstances. Gun violence is scary; especially in schools. This behavior will not be tolerated in school and will result in serious consequences; including suspensions and threat assessments.

Another issue is horseplay and play fighting. Horseplay and play fighting are not allowed at school. It frequently leads to real fights. At no time should a child be physical with another child. If they are having an issue with another student, they need to get help from an adult. We want our students to be and feel safe at school and are here to help in any way.

Finally, we have been beginning to hear from students about a Netflix movie called "Death Note" that is apparently related to anime. This movie is not appropriate for children and is rated for Mature Audiences Only.

These days, school safety is always top of mind and we as educators and parents need to work together to protect our children and their innocence.

Sincerely,

Cardinal Elementary Administrators

Winter Weather and Winter Safety

Please send students dressed appropriately for winter weather. As we are experiencing cold, snowy weather, it is important that students are properly dressed for outdoor temperatures, snow, and slush. Boots, snowpants, hats and mittens are helpful. Students will not be permitted to stay indoors unless the temperature "feels like" less than 10 degrees.

We recommend labeling all winter wear so it is easy to identify when lost or when items get mixed up between students.

Finally, please use extra caution in the drop off and pick up lanes. Icy conditions can lead to accidents and we don't want students, parents, or staff to be hurt!
