St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church
As We Reopen (Again) | Reservations for Mass
From the Pastor | Notes on Reopening | September 1, 2020
Dear Parishioners of St. Elizabeth Seton,
The county of San Diego has received new guidelines from the State of California on gathering in person for worship. The new guidelines are given to us as a tiered system that is color coded and can be reviewed every two weeks I believe. Currently we are in the “red zone”. Being in the red zone we are able to resume masses indoors but must again be limited to either 25% of our occupancy or 100 people whichever is less.
I am sure that there are some who would like to continue the outdoor services but at this time, given the weather and our resources, we will be celebrating the Eucharist in the church. We will resume our practice of reserving a place at one of the liturgies by signing up on the Event-brite platform available on our website at seschurch.org. We will continue to have 5 liturgies each weekend at 5 pm Saturday and Sunday at 7:30, 9:30, 11:30 and 5 pm. I am grateful to Fr. Frank Pugliese who is helping us by celebrating one of the Sunday liturgies. Sign ups will begin at 8:30 am on Wednesday. We will accommodate everyone that we possibly can.
We will continue to livestream our Sunday mass at 9:30 am. and the universal dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Eucharist continues throughout the diocese. We will also continue with our safety protocols of wearing masks at all times, observing social distancing, hand sanitizing and employing a company to sanitize our worship space in-between each mass. The Bishop also requests that there be no physical expression of the Sign of Peace and that communion only be received in the hand. Any singing or reciting prayers needs to be done at a normal voice level and with a mask on. We will be using our registration system to record who attends mass as required by the CDC. All weddings and funerals will be conducted in the church.
Again, I would like to express my deep gratitude to those who continue to be faithful stewards in supporting our parish during this time of reduced attendance. We all share the challenge of keeping within our budgets during this difficult time. We are still not able to take up a collection during mass so I ask that all envelopes and contributions be placed in the baskets by the baptismal font or in one of the four offering boxes we have around the ambulatory of the church. I am most grateful to those who are taking advantage of on-line giving at this time.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation during these transitions. We are doing the best we can to accommodate the greatest number of people. I am sorry that we cannot accommodate all of your preferences. Confessions will continue on Saturday afternoons in the reconciliation room at 3 pm. May our Lord continue to bless your families, protect you from all harm and keep you safe and surrounded in his love.
Blessings,
Fr. Michael
