Principal's Corner
Along with being full, it's full of illness this year. All Minnewaska sites have been full of illness from Influenza, Strep Throat and good old fashioned stomach flu. We cannot stress enough to keep your child home when they're ill.
In the past week, we've had a few students get onto buses they do not have passes for. Please remember, if your child is riding a bus other than the regular route, they do need a pass in order to get on the bus. We are working with Palmer Bus Company on this matter as well.
Just a reminder there is a bit of a break this month. Students will be off on Thursday, Feb. 15-19.

Illnesses
The Minnesota Department of Health has identified widespread influenza like illness in the state. There have been a total of 39 school outbreaks this season. When your student has been sent from school with either influenza like illness or the following symptoms, Please keep your students home according to the district guidelines as follows:
Minnewaska Area Schools Illness Policy 2017-18
It is hard sometimes to know when a student should stay home from school and when a student should attempt to come to school, even though they may have a mild illness. When your child is ill and not feeling well, please keep them at home. The following information is intended to help with this decision:
1. If a student has a fever of 99ยบ or more, the student should stay home until they have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.
2. If a student has vomited or had diarrhea, they should stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
3. If a student has reddened eye/s, drainage from the eye, crusted shut when waking up in a.m, please have student see their physician/primary care provider before sending student to school.
4. If a student doesn't feel well and appears sick looking (pale, cough, sore throat, body aches, lethargic, etc.).
5. For strep throat, pink eye, impetigo, and other infections that are contagious in nature and require an antibiotic, a student must be on the antibiotic for 24 hours before returning to school.
Sincerely-
Miriam Thornquist, RN
