This is Testing Week - September 20-24

Terra Nova standardized testing for students in grades 2 through 8 begins this week. All parents want to see their student(s) perform well in school and you play an important role in helping your student give their best performance on a test.

As you plan for testing week, here are a few suggestions:

  • Have your child get to bed on time. Research shows that being well-rested helps students do better.
  • Resolve any immediate arguments before bed. Minimize digital distractions.
  • Keep your routine as normal as possible. Upsetting natural routines make make children feel insecure.
  • Mention the test to show you’re interested, but don’t dwell on it.
  • Plan ahead to avoid any conflicts or stress in finding necessary items
  • Get up early to avoid rushing and be sure to have your child at school on time.
  • Eat a nutritious breakfast as research shows that they perform better if they have breakfast.
  • Be positive. Acknowledge that tests can be hard and that they are devised so that no one knows all the answers. Explain that doing your best is what counts.

It is very important that your child attends school all week. There will be little time to make up any test and it is sometimes difficult to focus and do one’s best when one has to make up a test.

Grade 6 First Campus Ministry

This week, our 6th graders participated in their first Campus Ministry session. The theme was: social justice and Catholic Social Teaching. 6th graders made 150 sunshine bags for donation through Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth and Street Teens. Thank you to Rosy Hartz, St. Viator Coordinator of Youth Ministry and Faith Formation. Our students collected items for this project and had an important retreat experience. Their personal notes of encouragement to these teens were amazing. Thank you 6th graders!

Just a little more needed!

Campus Ministry still needs your help. We need Chapsticks and Capri Sun juice boxes. All grades can help. So far 150 bags for homeless youth were made. We still need 200 more. If you can contribute, it is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support!

SVS Students Digital Artwork

The 2021-2022 school year marks our 7th year using Artsonia to showcase student work. Student artwork is displayed by grade in project galleries. view school gallery Please check out their gift shop; they have a great gift center with your kid’s art on each piece. St. Viator’s art room gets 20% back, which helps us buy supplies that are above and beyond the standard items. They do all the work and it’s a great keepsake!
