A Letter of Support for our Varsity Boys Basketball Team
We, the staff and administration of Beloit Memorial High School, stand in solidarity with our varsity boys basketball team and condemn the overt actions of racism and prejudice that allegedly occurred at last Friday’s game against Muskego High School. In addition, we offer our unwavering support to countless other student-athletes and fans of Beloit who have endured similar experiences of racism and harassment.
These actions and incidents take a toll on our students, and not just on the court. Students who experience racial trauma often struggle to focus on schoolwork, due to increased fear, anxiety, and lower feelings of self-worth. Furthermore, incidents like these rob students of precious milestones and memories that are an integral part of growing up.
We expect safe learning environments in our schools and at athletic/activities events that promote a positive, productive, and supportive atmosphere. We expect that our school community is treated with respect and dignity. The memory of the events that occurred may be indelible, but our student-athletes have shown tremendous character, resilience, and leadership in the face of extreme adversity. They vocalized their belief that racism can not be tolerated; we stand firmly with them, and commit to the work of anti-racism. Our student-athletes deserve to end their season by celebrating their successes and reflecting on how much they have accomplished.
Muskego is fully cooperating with our school district in an investigation of the alleged racist slurs and chants. They have also provided an apology. However, real change comes with serious reflection about what could have led to the event in the first place, and a concrete plan for the sustained work needed to make sure it never happens again.
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) requires good sportsmanship at education-based sporting events. Attendance at interscholastic activities is a privilege with the expectation to exhibit positive and respectful behavior. Much more than sportsmanship is on the line; this is about the safety and well-being of our students. It is a testament to our student-athletes character and values that they were able to remain poised and courageous in the face of such overwhelming adversity last week.

PreACT Secure Assessment - April 5, 2023
9th and 10th Grade students at Beloit Memorial High School will be participating in the PreACT Secure Assessment on April 5.
The PreACT Secure is an online summative assessment given to 9th and 10th grade students that is aligned to the ACT and the ACT College and Career Readiness Standards. PreACT Secure measures what students have learned in the areas of English, Reading, Mathematics, and Science.
9th and 10th Grade students should report to the building at 7:30 for breakfast and check-in. Students are strongly encouraged to leave their backpack at home during testing. Since this is an online assessment, students will need to bring their school district assigned Chromebooks. All other personal belongings that are brought to school will be stored in a secure location during testing. Students will be released as they finish the test, typically around 11:30 AM. Students in accommodation testing rooms may take longer.
During testing on April 5th, BMHS will be closed to the public. There will be no school for Juniors and Seniors.
Congratulations to our Business Students at the Junior Achievement Titan Business Challenge!
Arturo Saldana, Ajax (Savannah) Butler, Anna Luna, Gavin Luethy, Micah Aguilar and Anthony Ferrera and Harris Sembhi participated in the Junior Achievement Titan Business Challenge. This was the South Central Regional Competition on Wednesday, March 7th. All of the teams finished in the top 4. There were 93 competitors.
Harris Sembhi (Harrisdeep) and Gavin Luethy finished 1st and qualified for the State tournament to be held on May 4th in Sheboygan at the Acuity Insurance Building. They also won $750 each in scholarships.
The competition is a CEO simulated competition where teams run a cell-phone manufacturing company and have to make quarterly decisions about marketing, research and development, pricing, production, capital investment and more. Each team's decisions are submitted and then the computer acts as the market and determines sales for each company and then each company reevaluates and makes new decisions for the next quarter and the process repeats itself for about 12 quarters.
