Wolf Pack Words
Long Weekend Ahead
A Note from Misty
Please be sure to let Stephanie Keith know what your teacher experience will be for the Fall Festival auction. Also, make sure you have October 25th saved for our Fall Festive. It is an expectation that all staff be in attendance to support our very giving PTA at their biggest night of the year.
We want your input about our Holiday Party. A Google form will be sent out soon and we will request you RSVP so we have a solid headcount for the party.
Please review Ms. Edwards' note from the Superintendent Teacher Council Meeting.
Dr. Coburn regarding "Campus All" emails:
Need your help, please. We’ve had a couple of instances where the “Campus – ALL” email has become an issue for a variety of reasons. While that particular tool can be valuable, we really need some campus oversight to make sure it is used both sparingly and properly. To that end, please implement the following on your campuses as you see fit:
- Inform your campuses that you or a designated administrator needs to approve the use of a “Campus-ALL” email
- Help your staff understand that this is a tool that should be limited in the scope of its use
- If you have a staff member who is wanting to get information out to campuses other than your own, please instruct them to send that information to the campus principal so that they can distribute, and to copy you so that we know campus administration has been looped in

SHOUT OUTS!!!
Schotts is our newest ESL certified teacher!!! YAY!!
Last year HES was customer service "secret shopped." Yall!! Our score was one of the highest in LISD. MICHELLE DOSS was the only one in the front office and gave her undivided attention to this parent that was asking difficult questions. Michelle gave answers, didn't rush this person and then told them she would come in early to give them a tour of HES in order to accommodate the parent's schedule. When someone came into the office, Michelle politely let the "shopper" know she needed to help this parent, and then came right back. I know this isn't surprising to any of us because Michelle is a person that does her job at the highest levels and is very "customer" centered (students, parents, community members, staff, lost people looking for directions!!). Thank you, Michelle, you make us look GOOD!!!
Policy Change:
K-2 will need to use the buddy system when leaving the playground for a bathroom, office, nurse or any other kind of inside the building visit. If might be a good idea to take one of the students' badges to hang on to as a reminder you have students inside the building.
Principal Awards
Teachers and staff,
We wanted to send an update regarding Principal Awards. Originally when the award was started (2017), the plan was for a spontaneous award to acknowledge students for acts of kindness, good character, upstanding citizenship, etc., and to award those that may not always get an award. The original award concept changed over the past 2 years to where students couldn’t get the award more than once and teachers would share positive character traits of a handful of students on a spreadsheet, but by the time the award was given, sometimes the behavior of the child was less than desirable and the award wasn’t appropriate.
So, we’d like to change it up a bit this year. Principal awards will be awarded to deserving students by way of any staff (not just teachers) noting something special they see in any student (doesn’t have to be their own). It can be random acts of kindness, good character or just being a good citizen. There will be a box outside of my office or in the lounge for staff to “report” these students for them to get an award. Misty or I will present the award and contact the student’s parents.
My hope is that this process will be a little more spontaneous and less “forced”. The goal is for students to be recognized for doing good and for being kind. All staff can recommend a student for an award - custodians, cafeteria staff, office staff, teachers, paras, etc.!
