Lifelines of the Month
C - Connecting
L - Learning
A - Assures
S - Successful
S- Students
LIFELINES are the character traits that are taught at school so that everyone is using the same vocabulary. They may be taught in a different order at the buildings, but 4 that have been introduced or reflected on this year at EPS & EIS are:
Patience - to wait without complaining
Awareness - to be aware of how your actions and interactions impact things and others around you
Flexibility - to be willing to alter plans when necessary
Integrity - to do the right thing even when no one is looking
Be sure to discuss these at home and integrate them into your at-home language - you'll be impressed at how quickly they remember the definitions and follow through!
Ready Schools
Teacher Tips!
Keep reading to your children after they can read for themselves. This is an excellent way to spend special time with your children and it helps your children advance their own reading skills.
Encourage your child to work puzzles. They build many skills. They help with patterns (math), connecting pieces (reading), patience and focus as well as small muscle coordination. Besides, they are fun and something families can do together.
Display your child’s drawings and writings at home. Talk to your child about what he/she wrote. If you show interest in what your child is doing and proudly display the work they feel proud and encouraged to do more. It is a very positive way to encourage writing.
Attitude is very important when trying to learn something new or hard. Speak positively to your child about school and teachers. Your attitude toward learning will send a powerful message to your child. When working at home, be sure to approach it as a fun time to be together, or make a game of it.
