Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Can you believe April is here? Time flies when you are having fun! As the warmer weather approaches, please be mindful of appropriate attire that does not interfere with the learning process. The following guidelines should prove helpful in planning for warm weather attire:

  • No tight, brief or exposing garments, specifically the midriff or shorts/skirts that are mid-thigh or higher.
  • No halter tops or tank tops with spaghetti straps - all straps should have a wide band that is at least “3 fingers” in width.
  • No hats or head coverings are permitted, except in cases of religious or medical reasons.
  • Appropriate footwear is to be worn at all times. Flip flops, high heels and strappy sandals are not permitted.

In addition, students will continue to go outside for recess. Therefore, appropriate outerwear and footwear should be worn. Our primary goal and focus continues to be the safety and well-being of our students while providing them with a sound educational program. Please be sure to label all your children's jackets and lunch bags as we have an overflowing lost and found bin. I thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.

Our next PTA meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10th. I hope you can join us. Let’s have an Amazing April!

Sincerely,

Hillary Bromberg, Ed.D.

Did You Know we Have a Direct Absence Line?

Please be reminded that regular school attendance is not only mandated by law, but is a key ingredient for educational success. Legal reasons for absences include: illness, death in family, court appearances, and observance of religious holidays. If your child is frequently absent due to illness, you will be contacted and medical documentation may be requested. All other absences will be considered unexcused or truant.

Please also be aware that lateness to school can be considered partial truancy and is monitored as closely as absences. Chronic lateness is disruptive to the students in the class, the teacher, and most importantly, to the child. Parents and guardians are asked to contact the school to report each absence. This can be done by calling our Absentee Line at 516-379-3733. If you are requesting classwork and/or homework for your child on the day of the absence, please leave that message with the nurse or on the absence line. Parents are requested to submit a written and signed excuse note for each absence your child has, when they return to school.

International Day of Happiness

Students and staff participated in wonderful activities promoting kindness, perseverance, friendship, and mainly happiness. Students entered the building with positive messages chalked on the walkway. Upon entering the building they were given a positive message on a fortune cookie strip of paper and received high fives in the hallway. They had a morning assembly with Robbie Levine from American Idol, who not only gave a private concert but also spoke about kindness and GRIT. The afternoon assembly ended the day with a prism award given to a sixth grade recipient who exudes kindness and lifts people's spirits. Each grade level also performed a song during the afternoon assembly following the theme of happiness and sunshine. The assembly ended with a video created by the staff, dancing to the song High Hopes.
