Lowell Leopard News
November 2022
From the Principal
Happy November, Lowell families! This is the month of gratitude, so I’ll start by saying a big thank you to our families for all that you do to support our school and your child’s learning each day! Thank you for participating in your child's conference earlier this month, and for your book fair purchases, which help our library! I'm also grateful to our PTA for a fun movie night last month, and for all they are doing to make our community stronger.
I hope that you'll consider signing up to be a Watch D.O.G.S. volunteer here. This is a great way to be involved in our school. Though this program was originally created to encourage dads and other father figures to get involved, we'll take anyone! For questions, e-mail Amber McPartland at amcpartland@everettsd.org.
Lowell students will learn about Veterans Day during an assembly at 1:45 p.m. Nov. 10 in the cafeteria, and we invite our community to join us!
Do you have a child who will start kindergarten next fall, and who isn't currently in an early learning (preschool) program? If so, check out our district's transitional kindergarten program -- there's a flier attached, and more info on registration here. The program starts Jan. 25, with registration due by Dec. 12.
As we head into the colder months and the holiday season, we know that many families face financial strain. Here are a few resources that may be of assistance:
- This list features a variety of winter resources, including holiday meals and gift support.
- Snohomish County’s Energy Assistance Program is accepting applications. The program helps eligible county households with costs associated with heating bills, water or sewer needs, and air conditioning support.
-
The COVID-19 Immigrant Relief Fund is accepting applications until Nov. 14. Eligible applicants can receive up to $1,000 in direct financial relief. It’s safe to apply. No information goes to the government, and the public charge rule should not apply.
The Homeowners Assistance Fund is now accepting applications for up to $60,000 in relief per household. The HAF helps qualified homeowners in Washington State that have fallen behind on their mortgage due to pandemic hardship.
One quick reminder about the car lane during morning drop-off: Please note that we have staff out at the drop-off lane only until 8:30 a.m., as their responsibilities in other areas of our school begin immediately. If your child is arriving after 8:30, please have them enter through the main office.
Have a great month, and please be sure to reach out with any questions or needs!

P.E. with Mrs. Neyens
K-5 students did an amazing job with the 20-meter pacer running test this past month. Third through fifth grade also assessed their plank and pushup. During the first week of November, third- through fifth-graders set goals around each of the assessments, so please look for a copy of that in the coming weeks. All students will begin our kicking, dribbling, and passing unit, as well as learning how to play a fun game of kickball! We also did our first round of the Fastest Class Challenge! Please ask your student about this fun activity. We do this to promote teamwork as well as boost heart health and cardio endurance. The fastest class in the school is Mrs. Swan's fourth-grade class! CONGRATULATIONS to them, and to the fastest class in each grade:
- Kindergarten: Mrs. Bullock
- 1st: Mrs. Britsch
- 2nd: Mrs. Wartenbee
- 3rd : Mrs. Maxwell
- 4th: Mrs. Swan
- 5th: Mrs. Martinez
S.T.E.A.M. with Ms. McHargue & Ms. Johnson
This month our focus is on introducing technology, learning about creating strong passwords, and expressing creativity through an art challenge. Grades 3-5 will work on creating strong passwords for their student accounts. Grades 1 & 2 will be working on a digital STEAM challenge. Kindergarten will focus on art this month, and we will introduce technology in December! All grades will learn about the Macy's Parade in New York City and be able to create an animal using their art skills. As a reminder, Mrs. Johnson is here on Mondays, Tuesdays, and some Fridays; Mrs. McHargue is here Wednesdays, Thursdays, and some Fridays. Due to the rotation schedule this year, we will be seeing new classes after Thanksgiving break. We are looking forward to getting to know more students!
