8th Annual Veterans Day Celebration
Uthoff Valley students are encouraged to invite veteran guests to participate in our 8th Annual Veterans Day Celebration. This is our opportunity to honor and celebrate all who have served. In lieu of our traditional celebration, we will be hosting a Patriotic Parade.
The parade will take place on Thursday, November 11, 2021. Veterans will line up down Uthoff Drive (similar to arrival & dismissal) @ beginning at 9:45am; the parade will begin at 10:00am. You are encouraged to decorate your veterans' car with red, white & blue. The students will line the sidewalk around the bus lane to cheer on our veterans as they drive by.

Free Viewing of "Don't Wait"
Rockwood Parents,
You can view the film DON'T WAIT for free now through November 28.
Addiction is Real's award-winning substance use prevention film, DON’T WAIT, was created to provide you with the knowledge and empowerment you need to immediately start implementing drug prevention in your home. Parents can’t afford to ignore the pressures their children face to try drugs and alcohol. From school hallways to social media to pop culture, your child lives in a world that encourages substance use.
Through interviews with parents, drug prevention experts, and one brave mother sharing her son’s story, DON’T WAIT offers you insights on:
- Why it’s essential to talk to your kids early and often about the dangers of drugs and alcohol
- How to best approach these conversations based on your child’s age
- How and why 90% of addiction develops during the teenage years
- Proactive measures you can take to prepare and protect your children from addiction
- What to do if you spot signs of drug and alcohol use in your child

Catching Good Character - November - Perseverence
At Uthoff Valley it is our goal that students carryover and apply the Viking Virtues taught at school in their everyday life. We would like to provide the parents the opportunity to share examples of when their child is demonstrating our Viking Virtues at home or in our community.
Simply take a picture of your child displaying the character trait of the month (November is Perseverence) and email it to your child’s teacher with a short caption describing their actions (similar to Instagram). Pictures with captions will be displayed in the rotunda for everyone to see!
Read, Right and Run
Dear Parents,
This year Uthoff Valley Elementary will be participating in the annual Read, Right & Run Marathon. This event challenges students to complete a “marathon” over the course of the school year. Students will read, run, and perform good deeds to meet the challenge. The final mile of the marathon will be in Forest Park on April 2, 2022. The following information explains the requirements for Read, Right, and Run.
Books: Students need to read 26 books by April 2, 2022.
- Students may read 26 books independently (at home) or at school.
- Students may use a combination of the above to complete their 26 books.
Deeds: All students need to complete 26 good deeds by April 2, 2022.
- Parents decide what a good deed is. Good deeds may take place at school (helping a teacher), at home (helping around the house, etc.), or in the community (helping neighbors, relatives, etc.)
Miles: Students need to complete 26 miles by April 2, 2022.
If your children participate in after-school sports, you can estimate their mileage.
- We are hoping to schedule outdoor runs before school, weather permitting. More details on these will come after you register.
Students of all ages/grades can participate. We have had students from kindergarten through 5th grade complete this awesome challenge.
If you plan on taking part in this event, please register online using the link found on the bottom of this sheet. Be sure to register for the 1.2 mile race (not the 5K).
We would like ALL students to be registered by Friday, November 5th. Students can start logging their books, deeds, and miles now. We will distribute the official RRR journals/log sheet as soon as we receive them. (If your child registers AFTER November 5th, we cannot guarantee your child a journal.) We hope you will consider having your child participate in this annual event. Research shows that regular exercise actually improves many areas of brain function including memory, stress reduction, and attention span. All of these areas point toward academic success.
For more information, or if you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at 636-891-6725 or at backerjulie@rsdmo.org
Sincerely,
Julie Backer
