Tisch's Tidbits
Welcome Mr. Gabriel!
We have an excellent student teacher from Butler University who will be joining us this semester! Chaz Gabriel will be with us until December 12. What a blessing to have another educator teaching in our classroom.
Snack
With the earlier start time, many of our fourth grade students are just not ready to eat a big breakfast before heading onto the bus in the morning. With a later lunch time and a recess that occurs prior to lunch, we have students that are becoming quite hungry! In order to remedy this problem, fourth grade students will be permitted to bring in a snack. This will be consumed in the cafeteria as part of a transition built into the schedule of the day. Students are welcome to bring in a snack that is:
· Individual serving size
· Consumed without utensils
· Healthy-no cookies, Twinkies, potato chips, etc.
· Nut-free
Some examples would be fruit or vegetable slices, pretzels, popcorn, fruit snacks, applesauce pouches, etc. No drink is needed, as students have their water bottles.
Please write your child's name on the snack as well. We will continue to follow our safety protocols, including no sharing of food, hand washing, etc. This began today and all went smoothly. Thank you for putting names on their containers. We have Sharpies in which the students can write their names on bags when they come to class.
Scholastic Orders
Don't forget Scholastic Book orders are due August 31. You can order online or you can send your order in with a check to me here at school. Happy Reading!

Room Mom/Dad
Our classroom is looking for Room Parents. The person/people who serve in this role will act as the go-between our PTO and our classroom families. They will also help to coordinate school parties or other events. Room Parents are not required to attend every event, but are asked to attend at least 3 PTO meeting a year so that they may communicate information back to our classroom families. If you are interested in this role, please email me by August 31st. If there are more than one or two interested parents, I will use a random selection process to determine who will serve in this role. This is only one of the MANY volunteer opportunities available to assist our classroom during this school year. Describe some of the other volunteer opportunities here. We are so fortunate to have such an active parent base. Thanks for all that you do!
Water Bottles
Your child is more than welcome to bring a water bottle to school each day. They can leave it in their lockers and fill it up each morning as well. We have brand new water bottle fillers located at the drinking fountains!
REMIND 101
This year I'm using Remind to send updates about important class information. I also send pictures of exciting events in the classroom! Thank you to those who have already signed up.
To sign up for 2017-18 notifications, please visit
https://www.remind.com/join/987dd8
You can choose whether you would like the updates to come to your email or as a message in Remind101. I will send updates and pictures of what is happening in the classroom, so I would love for each of you to be on the list!
Tape Needed
One item that your child will need is a roll of scotch tape to keep at their desk. We will use this for our Interactive Notebook. It wasn't on the supply list as not all of the classrooms do this. I'm sorry to add one more thing to your list, but taping is less messy than glue!
Multiplication Facts
These lovely facts are so important for the kids to know by heart. It seems as though everything we do in math involves this skill. I will be assessing what the kids already know and the facts they still need to memorize during the first few weeks of school. The sooner they are all memorized, the easier math will be. Rather than doing timed tests, your child will have five facts to practice. When they know them, I will spend a few minutes ensuring they know them at school and five more will then be assigned. It would be good start working on these at home. Once facts are assigned, this will be part of your child's homework until they are learned. Then on to division!
NFG/T
You may see this on your child's work! NFG means Not For Grade and the T means we did it Together.
