Week of 10/30

October Happenings

Our fall festival was AMAZING and we want to thank our PLT (Parent Lighthouse Team) for making it happen! They’ve worked tirelessly for the past month organizing games, finding volunteers and donations, and working together to make the fall festival a success. Mrs. Barron and Mrs. Wallisch led the charge! We appreciate your dedication to SDE. Thank you to the families who came to join in the fun, it looked like everyone had a fun night.

We have a few reminders for this week:

  1. Buster the Bus visits Silverdale on Monday. Kindergarten and first grade will enjoy this fun, interactive session in the MPR.
  2. Our Halloween parade, costume contest, and dance are on Tuesday. The parade begins at 2:15 and parents are welcome to watch. The cost is $5 to participate. For the costume contest, first place prize receives $25, second place prize receives $20, and third-place prize receives $15.
  3. Tuesday is the last day to submit Boxtops, Sunny D labels, and Tyson labels for this semester. The winning class gets a pizza party or ice cream party.
  4. 5th grade donated the most to the Hurricane Harvey drive and will have a dance party from 2:30-3:30 in the MPR on Friday.

Early Checkouts:

Please help us reduce the number of early checkouts. We’ve had 486 in the first 40 days of school. This is a significant loss in instructional time for students. We know emergencies come up, students get sick, and there are doctor appointments and other times when students need to leave; those checkouts are necessary. Please help us increase instructional time in the classroom by reserving early checkouts for when it’s necessary only. Thank you!

Jones Onslow Bright Idea Grant Winners!

Mrs. Bass and Mrs. Sumner wrote a grant to bring electrical circuits and music to students through a hands-on approach and won $700 to fund this project.

Dr. Howard, Ms. Coward, Megan Matticola, Kristen Markle, and Nicole Jenkins (parent on our PLT) worked together to write a grant to bring a greenhouse and raised garden beds to our school. This was fully funded at $2000. Mrs. Jenkins has been instrumental in the design, innovative ideas, and vision for this project and we can't wait to see it take shape!

Big thank you to these educators and parent for their leadership and drive to bring innovative projects to Silverdale.
