St. Patrick's Day Poem
by Jynna Beagles
What is luck?
Finding that rare four-leaf clover
Or that double rainbow
Maybe the sparkling pot of gold
That short ginger leprechaun dressed in green
Luck brings smiles and laughter to all who seek it
Maybe you find luck in a 5 dollar bill on the road
Or that last bowl of lucky charms
St.Patrick's Day is full of luck for all breathing
That luck of eating brunch with family
Or the day wasted with friends in search of an adventure
This day is full of gold and arrays of green everywhere you look
Wear green or risk those pinches from people on the lookout
St. Patrick'sday is dedicated to luck and fun
Be warned for this day is bound to be fun
Best of luck to you with the greens and luck of all kinds

Have you filed your free application for financial aid?
Financial Aid is money to help pay for college. Everyone is eligible for financial aid, regardless of income, GPA or citizenship. You can receive financial aid based on need or merit. Need is based on what your family is able to contribute to the cost of attending college. Merit refers to your achievements in academics, sports, or other activities.
FAFSA/ORSAA Campaign
Remember when you file for financial aid, you are applying for the 2023/2024 school year. Check deadlines with the schools you have applied to or will be applying to and double check due dates. Visit the school's website or call the financial aid office at the school. Deadlines are often in February and March, although some are even earlier.
Don't procrastinate, awards are made until funds run out. If you wait, you could miss out on grant money.
12th Grade Checklist
MARCH
Keep up the good work! College and scholarship applications are looking at your second trimester grades. Don't slack now! Stay involved in extracurricular activities, internships and other learning opportunities.
Continue applying for scholarships. Local scholarships are rolling in. Keep checking the scholarship spreadsheet. The more scholarships you apply for, the more money you might have access to for college.
Confirm summer plans. Apply for camps and programs or find an internship or summer job in a field that you are interested in. Make sure to include college orientation in your summer plans.
File taxes. The deadline to file taxes is April 15th. Financial awards are based off of you and your parents tax information from previous years, so make sure to file on time.

Volunteer Opportunity with YouthLine
YouthLine is a free teen-to-teen help, support and crisis line that operates every day from 4-10 PM PST. Teens can call, text or chat us with anything that may be bothering them; including family and relationship problems, substance abuse, eating disorders, depression, suicidal thoughts, and other tough issues. We are trying to recruit folks for our Volunteer and Work Study program and we’d love your help doing so!
Students must be 15-20 years old for the Peer Crisis Intervention Specialist position and able to commit to one 4-hour shift per week (2:45p-6:45p PST). For students 21+, we have our Coaching Volunteer position where volunteers sign up for one 6.5-hour shift per week. We ask for a minimum of a one-year commitment from volunteers.
Volunteers will also have the opportunity to join committees. YouthLine recognizes the power and importance of youth and young adult voices. Our youth-led, staff-supported Legislative Committee and Equity Committee empower our volunteers to create meaningful community, institutional, and systemic change by engaging in sociopolitical processes.
Our work-study program is designed for young people who are marginalized by social and economic resources. Access to a program that offers support and information related to interpersonal skills, self-care and compassion, mental health awareness, adult mentorship, and community supports should be available to all. YouthLine recognizes that there are barriers inherent in the systems that exist and is striving to address some of those barriers to provide access to this program to all youth.
Eligible youth may apply to receive a stipend of $125 per month. Students must meet at least one of the following criteria: bilingual, attends a Title 1 school, qualifies for free/reduced lunch, annual household income that is at or below the poverty line, lives in a single-guardian household, lives in a rural area, or has a commute to the Bend Youthline office of 20+ miles. Due to limited funding, preference will be given to candidates who meet multiple criteria.
By working with us, students get to be a powerful voice of hope for other teens and young adults! You’ll receive 63-hours of free and comprehensive training; including certification in Youth Mental Health First Aid, safeTALK, and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), as well as ongoing personal and professional development. Working on our lines provides students a fantastic opportunity to learn and gain experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation tactics, and is a fantastic way to earn internship credits and/or practicum or service hours! On top of that, it looks great on resumes or graduate school applications!
Our next Volunteer Orientation is on Thursday, March 2nd and Thursday, March 9th at 5:30 on Zoom.
ASPIRE
The program matches trained, supportive adult volunteer mentors with students to help them develop a plan that meets their career and education goals.
