Well-Being special - Self Expression
Children's Mental Health Week
This week is Children's Mental Health Week. The theme for this year has been focused on 'Expressing Yourselves' and children across the school have been thinking about the things that they like to do in order to express their creativity and show who they are. Through activities and also on the Google Clasroom Chat Streams, children have shared their ideas, thoughts and work about self expression. We even did a 1 minute squiggle challenge in our Zoom worships this week and shared our instant creations!
If you want more information about Children's Mental Health Week do look on the Worship in Lockdown page of our website or click on the link below to visit Place2Be which has some useful advice.
Expressing ourselves in Forest Schools
This week the children got handy with a range of tools in forest schools. Using hacksaw, gimlet and elder branches their creations included stick men, necklaces, bracelets, watches and even an elder cat. What a great way to use nature to be creative!

School Update
Dear Parents and Carers
As you will notice from our newsletter, despite lockdown, the children at Cathedral School have been busy learning, exploring, making and expressing themselves.
We are so impressed with their wonderful attitudes and continued hard work, both a school and at home.
Lateral Flow Testing
Lateral Flow Tests are now being used regularly by staff in primary schools so that positive cases of coronavirus in people who may be asymptomatic can be identified. The science currently shows that 1 in 3 people infected with COVID 19 may not display symptoms.
The Department for Education do not have plans at this time for the regular testing of primary school children but we will inform you if this ever changes in the future.
We are pleased that we are now able to access rapid testing for staff as this is helping us to keep school as safe as possible for everyone and minimise risk. We do hope that this will provide our school family with some reassurance, as it will minimise the chance of asymptomatic staff attending school.
If a member of staff does receive a positive result from a Lateral Flow Test, then we will ensure that this is confirmed with a PCR test. As I am sure you will understand the safety of everyone in our school family is our highest priority and therefore in the instance where a Lateral Flow Test is positive we would temporarily close any affected bubbles. If the PCR test is positive, in line with guidance, there would be the need to isolate for 10 days from contact; however, if it is negative the bubble would be able to return to school.
Start and End of School
Please can we remind parents and carers who have children currently attending school that the start of lessons is at 8.45am and school ends at 3.15pm. We would be grateful if families can try to be prompt and on time to help ensure smooth transitions in and out of school. Can we also remind parents and carers that they should leave the premises immediately after picking up and dropping off.
Chromebooks
As we have received some new devices from the DFE into school we do now have a limited number of Chromebooks that we can loan out from next week. If your family has a need and would like to be considered please do email admin@riponcathedral.n-yorks.sch.uk and we will be in contact.
Have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards
Steve Holmes

Rubix Jack!
Jack in Year 4 has been telling us all about how he likes to express himself through the way he solves his Rubik's Cube. He has developed such a level of expertise that he has even created his own Youtube videos explaining how a cube can be solved. You can access weekly worship resources from our website 'Worship in Lockdown' page including one produced by Luke and Trinabh Year 6 which tells us all about our Hidden Chimps!
you can access the worship that they produced by clicking on the link below.
Rainforests in Reception
What a busy week it has been learning about rainforests in Reception. We can tell you all about the four different layers of the rainforest, what animals you might find in each of these layers and why these animals have made it their habitat. We’ve had great fun creating rainforest collages inspired by the artist Henri Rousseau and we have made our own rainforest animal masks. We have just one small problem, though; some of the children appear to have turned into rainforest animals!
