December 11, 2015

Good afternoon, Mustangs! I gladly share my space in our newsletter with our Principal for the Day, Cooper Mauldin. Principal Mauldin did an outstanding job and I am so proud of his confidence and courage in leading MES for the day!!! Way to go, Principal Mauldin!!

Jan Fickling, Principal of Midway Elementary

Dear Mustangs,

As Principal Mauldin I have been through the school to greet everyone and made the morning announcements. I monitored in the
cafeteria during kindergarten and second grade lunch.
I checked out security and greeted our officer.

I sent out a phone message reminder through School
Message so that everyone would remember our Grits for Grands and Book Fair.

The walkie was not easy to keep up with but it is important because we needed to stay in touch with the office.

I also made the afternoon announcements! My favorite thing to do was the announcements! Thank you to my Mom for making this possible!

Yours truly,

Mr. Cooper Mauldin

Field Study at LTC!

Mrs. McKinley and Mrs. Morris book buddy classes joined together at Lexington Technology Center to learn more about future careers and the leadership skills needed for these positions. Students also helped create a video to promote learning at LTC, showing how even our youngest students have dreams of future careers in carpentry, coding, baking, health science, agriculture, fire fighting, and engineering. What an exciting day of learning!

Wow Midway's new Outdoor Learning Pavillion is being built!

French Immersion Welcomed Author/Illustrator, Matthieu Mauet

On Thursday, December 10, Midway had a very special visitor. Illustrator/Author, Matthieu Mauet shared his talents with the French Immersion classes. Mssr Maudet read a few of his books and demonstarted his unique illustration techniques with the children. He also donated several books to Midway, which will be available in the Immersion classrooms.

Matthieu Maudet was born in Nantes, France, where he spent his early years sketching in the margins of his notebooks. Since then, he has dedicated himself entirely to illustrating comics and books for children.

We're coding!

December 7-11 students and teachers will be celebrating Computer Science Week with The Hour of Code. Students will become computer programmers and code using the amazing website Code.org. Coding will help students strengthen their computational skills and exercise their character skills of creativity and problem solving. Students and teachers at MES are excited and have started coding already!

5th graders visit River Bluff High School for Music concert

This past Wednesday, our 5th Grade Midway Mustangs took a field trip to River Bluff High School for a musical concert. Our students got to hear the high school’s Women’s Choir, Concert Choir, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Orchestra Chamber Ensembles, and Full Orchestra. This concert is a great tool to help our current 5th graders decide which musical ensemble they would like to participate next year at Meadow Glen Middle School.
