Welcome New Staff
Katie Mirkovic (not really new) will officially be joining our staff for the remainder of the year. She will be replacing Carmelita Nicks for the remainder of the school year.
Christina Gonzalez will be joining us as a new special education resource teacher. She will be replacing Sonali who had to leave unexpectedly in November. Christina will be with us every afternoon and at Hatch every morning. Welcome to Holmes!
Benchmark Assessment Window - IMPORTANT
We recommend you start with your highest students first. Some suggestions as to when to assess would be:
- During a strategy group
- While students are independently reading
- During that text levels guided reading group
I can not overstate the importance of testing a couple of students daily as subs will not be provided. If you have questions or concerns do not hesitate to reach out.
PBIS Staff Update
RE-TEACH OF HOLMES PBIS EXPECTATIONS
All teachers are asked to take time this week to review/re-teach all PBIS school-wide expectations. Here is the folder with all the lessons that should be reviewed.
When your class has completed the re-teach of all PBIS expectations, please have students sign this form and return it to Parisa to enter a drawing for a Starbucks gift card and a free 30-minute recess for your entire class! Your PBIS team will put a printed form in your mailbox.
FORMS
Just to put all the current PBIS forms at the top of your inbox!

FEATHERS
Please continue to award students following PBIS expectations with our school feathers! Remember that every feather awarded should be accompanied with communication on what expectations the student is meeting to earn the feather.
TAP OUT
Remember, in order to support teachers who need an emotional break or need to step away from a situation, your PBIS team has started “Tap Out”. Any teacher or staff member who needs a break due to an intense situation that occurred in their space can call Lori in the office. She will find an available staff member to be in your room within 5 minutes to give you a 5-minute break.
As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to your PBIS team!

Progress Monitoring Reminder!
Don't forget to progress monitor the students you are responsible for monitoring. Here are some helpful links:

How to give a Progress Monitor after the student completed the benchmark
If you are in a place where you still haven't given a certain student the Fall benchmark- do not give it now- we are too far from the window to make the scores valid. You can still Progress Monitor using a Survey Level Assessment in the area you want to progress monitor. Directions Here. Then you would set the goal and monitor from there.
Don't forget to also Check off your "To Do's" in Branching Minds!
Please reach out to Lisa with questions!
Commitment to Equity
Are you familiar with the district's Commitment to Equity? If not, you will need to familiarize yourself with the specifics of this policy and how it impacts our day to day practices.
Please take some time to review the district's equity policy and its supporting documents. It will give you some important insights into the "why" for much of our work and shed some light on some next steps towards breaking down barriers that prevent some students from being successful in school.
Problem Solving Meeting Dates
