Mystery Reader
February 15
February 22
Each week leading up to the mystery reader, a clue will be given over the announcements. On the fifth day, the mystery reader will read a portion of a book over the announcements. Students have the chance to guess 1) who the reader is and 2) what book they were reading. You may do this as a class vote or individually. Your votes will be turned in by noon. Each day a student from every class will have the chance to win a prize!

Optional Classroom Activities
- Make place-mats that share the love of reading. These can be used on the lunchroom walls during the month or take them home and use them at dinner. The creator of the mat can use this as a talking point with the family about the book they read.
- Design bookmarks and laminate.
- Planting reading seeds. During the month, plant spring flower seeds in peat pots as a child completes a book. In a few weeks watch the ‘reader’s book’ sprout. Instead of calling the plant by its botanical name, use the name of the book it represents.
- Have a book swap box. If several students have books that they have read and do not wish to keep, have them bring them to school and they can trade with another student. One book has to be put in, in order to take one out. This can be a good way to organize your classroom library as well.
- Set a class reading challenge goal. You can use books read, number of pages, number of minutes, etc. See if you can exceed your goal and celebrate your success!
Reflections
"Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him."~ Maya Angelou
