Free Dental Care for underserved Children
APPOINTMENTS ARE OPEN!
FREE DENTAL CARE FOR UNDERSERVED CHILDREN
Friday, Feb. 3 & Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023
Give Kids a Smile is a charitable outreach program that provides free dental care to underserved children (typically ages 3-18). Dental clinics throughout the state volunteer to provide these services during Children’s Dental Health Month.
WHEN IS IT?
February 3 and 4, 2023
(Some clinics hold events on alternative dates.)
LOCATION?
Volunteer dental clinics across the state.
HOW ARE APPOINTMENTS MADE?
Families can locate a participating clinic by visiting www.mndental.org/gkas or contacting the United Way by dialing 2-1-1 or texting the zip code to 898-211.They can then contact the clinic directly to schedule an appointment.
Please, help us get the word out!
Many children have never been to the dentist and are suffering from untreated dental care – possibly many that you work with. We ask you to please inform families about this event so their children can get the needed care they desperately need.
Flyers and other materials are easily accessible by visiting the MDA website. Please print and post fliers, distribute information sheets, and forward this email to your network of professionals who work with families (schools, agencies, clients, and other organizations).
Remember, because this program is focused on providing dental care to children who face barriers to accessing dental care, families will NOT be asked any eligibility questions.
Thank you for helping us inform families about this important opportunity to improve their children’s dental health…and smiles!
If you have any questions, please email sleclair@mndental.org.

Nate Klinsing with Mrs. Holoien
Gavin Anderson with Jill Alton
Bennett Moe with Mr. Klein
A special Teacher appreciation night ceremony held prior to the Cardinals vs. Osseo Orioles game on Thursday, Jan. 5 provided evidence that success for students benefits from strong connections with the teachers and administrators at school. A trio of Cardinals seniors selected and wrote a special tribute which was read aloud as the honored guests took a photo with each player.
Senior Captain Nate Klinsing invited physical education teacher Jami Holoien as his honored guest citing the “positive influence” and her “helpful and supportive approach” throughout high school. Gavin Anderson honored Jill Alton, assistant principal, for being “positive and understanding” and “always looking out for me and caring so much.” Bennet Moe selected Trevor Klein, 9th grade science teacher for his honored guest. He noted the safe and welcoming nature of Mr. Klein and stated his support has “made a difference on me because I would not be who I am without his help.”

Senior "Ads for Grads" for the 2022-2023 Yearbook
Senior Parents-
Senior Year is an important milestone in many student's lives and it’s important to find creative ways to commemorate your student’s senior year, celebrate all of their hard work and accomplishments throughout their school career, and let them know that you love and are proud of them. A fun and easy way to do this is to place a recognition ad, or an “Ad for Grads”, in the 2022-2023 Yearbook. This is something that your student can look back on for years to come.
It is very simple to create an “Ad for Grad.” Just visit www.jostensadservice.com and you can begin creating your ad today using your favorite photos of your son or daughter and a personal message. You can choose any photos you like: a baby photo, a grade school photo, or just a photo of your student that you love--you can even take a picture of the photo you want to use and upload that image from your phone.
- Photos may be in color or black and white, and you pick the fonts and background.
- Ads are available in two different sizes, 1/4 page for $60 or 1/8 page for $40.
- The Ads for Grads deadline is January 13, 2023.
If you have any questions or need tips on how to upload the pictures you want to use, please email Kari Berg at karilee.berg@ahschools.us or check out this sheet from Jostens with FAQs.

Parent Engage 360 Podcast Episode 29: Stay Above the Line
Sportsmanship is everybody’s business, and Anoka-Hennepin Schools and the Northwest Suburban Conference (NWSC) are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all at athletics and activities events.
Earlier this year, around 100 students from all five district high schools and NWSC member schools participated in a sportsmanship seminar titled “Stay Above the Line,” an initiative to promote positive spectator behavior and expectations.
In the latest Parent Engage 360 Podcast episode, host Liz Burgard is joined by two high school seniors to learn more about the “Stay Above the Line” initiative. Coon Rapids High School senior Eleanor Defoe and Blaine High School senior Kendall Stadden both represent their schools as Bleacher Captains.
Bleacher Captains will be visible at all NWSC-sponsored activities to help promote a positive environment and respectful behavior and cheers for all players, fans, opponents and game personnel.
In this episode, both Defoe and Stadden share insights into what it is like at a high school sporting event both from the spectator and student-athlete perspectives.
Tune in to the Parent Engage 360 Podcast on Podbean, Apple Podcasts, or at ahschools.us/parentengage360.
The Parent Engage 360 Podcast aims to provide parents and guardians with knowledge from experts in chemical health, mental health, internet safety and more, as well as the tools needed to support their children. Anoka-Hennepin hopes that providing timely and helpful information through the Parent Engage 360 podcast series will strengthen the bond between school and home with resources parents and guardians can use and share with others.
