OLMP Royals Weekly Update
Praying all in our OLMP community had a good start to their Lenten journey. We celebrated Ash Wednesday this week with a virtual assembly and kicked off our annual Lenten fundraiser (see details below). Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. By observing the 40 days of Lent, we replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days. See more information on Lent in our Chaplain's corner further on in the newsletter. Thank you to Deacon Doug for supporting our school in this important celebration at OLMP.
We were also able to celebrate the beautiful weather that ended our week with our Annual Winter Walk. Thanks to Mr. Reinhart for always making activity fun as he had some engaging activities placed along the route! See some of the fun in photos below.
Thank you to all those parents that engaged in our parent council meeting this week. It was great to see so many attending virtually. Another big thank you to an anonymous donor from St. Francis Xavier for donating some art work of St. Joseph to OLMP. This year has been declared the year of St. Joseph by Pope Francis and it is a great tribute to mark the occasion.
Important Things to know in the week to come:
Grades 5-8 will participate in our first ever OLMP Faith and Wellness morning on Tuesday this coming week.

Annual Lenten Fundraiser
Historically, OLMP School has done an annual Lenten fundraiser to help an organization in the community and to remind us of the importance of giving up something for the good of others. This year our Student Leaders are working to raise funds for the OLMP outdoor activity fund instead of an outside organization. We have had a number of enhancements take place this past year (basketball hoops, soccer nets, outdoor rink, etc.) and plan to continue this work into the spring and for the 2021-2022 school year.
To aid in our fundraising efforts, we are asking every student and staff member at OLMP School to sell flower-filled hanging baskets, patio planters, tomatoes, herb trays, or strawberry plants to family members, neighbours and friends. This can be a great Mother’s Day gift as these will arrive the Wednesday before Mother’s Day! The class who fundraises the most will receive a classroom prize determined in collaboration with their student council room reps. All sales will go through Parent PowerSchool portal.

Scripture:
Joel 2:12-14
12 “Even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” 13 Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. 14 Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave behind a blessing— grain offerings and drink offerings for the LORD your God.
How to Prepare for Lent By Virgina Wright
In the days prior to Lent, try one or more of these suggestions.
Ask God, every day, “What does my soul need?” Just ask, and wait quietly. Because we’re very good at fooling ourselves about how we’re doing, it might take several days of praying this question before we’re truly open and humble enough to know the answer.
Ask God, every day, “What about my life makes you happy?” Yes, when God looks at your life, some parts of it—perhaps many aspects of it—bring joy to God’s heart. Think of how your children or grandchildren or other people close to you make you happy. God is in relationship with you, which means that your sins grieve God’s heart, but also that your growth and love and freedom and kindness bring joy to God of the universe. Again, you will probably need to pray this a few times before you are willing to consider that you give God pleasure, that you make God happy in any way. Stick with this little prayer and keep listening.
Tell God, and yourself, every day, “I want to be open to the graces of this Lenten season.” Maybe you’re not open right now, or you’re not as open and willing as you’d like to be or think you should be. What else is new? We can always open our lives a bit more, let go of more stuff, listen better, and do more quickly and passionately what we know helps nurture God’s kingdom on earth.
This is a beginning: three short and simple prayer starters to ready yourself for the holy season.
