Mt. Bethel Messenger
August 30, 2019
STAFF NEWS
- Due to unforeseen circumstances, Sara Joiner has resigned effective 8/30/19. She is facing the need to provide support and care for her father who lives in Cordele, Georgia, and she will move home to be present as her family embraces their new normal. This was not an easy decision for Sara, as she has enjoyed getting to know the staff and students and her son, Jake, was doing well in Melissa Watts' first grade. We know that you will join our Mt. Bethel family in wishing her well.
- Kris Gorman will join the third grade team on Tuesday. Kris spent nine years teaching at Kincaid Elementary and took a few years off when she had her second child (Margot, 3). Kris will bring her oldest, Kellen with her, who will be in Heather Mullins' first grade class. She is excited to re-join the Mt. Bethel family - as she was a student Buccaneer and her Mom was one of our most beloved staff of all time - Susan Blackman! Kris's personal email address is klblackman23@hotmail.com and her CCSD email is Kristine.Gorman@cobbk12.org . It would be great to flood her with welcome messages!
The Voyage
We will show the first video at the end of announcements. Some time during the week, have a class meeting focused on the verbiage in the snipping below or utilize the full lesson plan linked below. *NOTE: The lesson linked blow contains more than you are expected to teach, BUT it has great points.
Expectations for the week:
Recognize and target talk students who show cooperation by listening to others.
Target Talk Examples:
SUZYQ - I am impressed with the way you showed cooperation by listening to STEVIEZ's ideas and trying an idea he suggested. This showed COOPERATION!
BUCCANEER - I celebrate the way you let TREE use your blue crayon when we were coding our OG words. This showed COOPERATION because you worked well with others!
Find students in other classes who appear to be using the anchor of COOPERATION! Point it out!
RTI KICKOFF - TUESDAY 9/3 @ 2:30
FACT CLUBS BEGIN 9/9
9/9 - BE READY!
Please make sure to read and act on the email sent out last week regarding gathering afternoon FACT Club dismissal.
- K - 2: Email sent on 8/30 from H. Mullins with title Fall Fact Club Form
- 3 - 5: Email sent on 8/31 from Schoeb with title FACT Club Dismissal Form
- Need a reminder of the email? Click the links above or download the documents below.
DUPLICATE - DUPLICATE - DUPLICATE
- We will NOT require paper notes for transportation changes because you should have the info you need via the form and can pull a spreadsheet and have all info in one place!
- The entire week of 9/9 will be all hands on deck for dismissal again - so please plan accordingly!
CogAT - This Week!
1st & 3rd Grades - please make sure you adhere to all testing guidelines and that you adhere to the schedule.
Testing is a whole-school effort. We appreciate everyone's flexibility and perseverance to make it happen!
PROGRESS REPORTS
Friday, 8/30/19, marks the end of the first half of the grading period. You are required to notify parents if their student has a 1 in any academic or behavioral area (K-3) or a C, D, or F in any academic area or a N in a behavior/work study area. This is considered a PROGRESS REPORT.
Parents can be notified via email, via weekly folder, or via other written notification. Parents should be notified NO LATER than Friday, 9/6/19
Sample of this communication may look like:
Dear Parent,
The purpose of this correspondence is to notify you that we are half-way through this marking period. At this time, your student has a (C, D, F, 1, N - whatever it is) in the area of ____________________. We will continue to work and provide differentiated instruction in your child's area of difficulty. (If you want to include a statement that reading nightly or spending 5-10 minutes daily practicing math facts or completing assigned homework would help your child, you may do so).
Sincerely,
The Most Awesome Teacher on the Planet
