Chandler AVID Newsletter
August 2021
Welcome to AVID!!
Hello Chandler AVID Community!
My name is Heather Dyke and I have the honor of serving as the AVID Site Coordinator at Chandler High School. One of my goals in this position is to increase awareness about the amazing learning activities and opportunities that are happening in AVID.
We have a very strong and supportive group of teachers, counselors, and administrators on our campus that believe in the mission of AVID and understand that we can use the research based, proven strategies to help our students have the supports and opportunities they need to not only reach the next level after high school, but to succeed and thrive.
If one of our AVID students has an achievement that you would like me to feature in a future newsletter, please send me an e-mail. I would love to hear about it!
Thank you for your continued support of our Chandler High School AVID program. I look forward to sharing with you some of the great things happening in our AVID classrooms and with our AVID students throughout this school year.
Sincerely,
Heather Dyke
We are LIMITLESS

Philosophical Chairs (Inquiry): Philosophical Chairs is a format for classroom discussion that ensures respectful dialogue, mutual understanding, and deep engagement into the subject matter. Once a statement is provided, participants select a side, either for/against, pro/con.

Welcome AVID Freshmen - Class of 2025!
During the first week in AVID, the freshmen participated in two activities geared to create and establish community and support: the name game and clock partners. The name game is a creative, non-intimidating way for students to learn their classmates' names. Plus, it is fun! The clock partner is a series of 12 appointments students can make with 12 other students. 12 different talking prompts are designed so students can meet with their peers, talk, share, and learn a bit more about each other.
AVID is...
When AVID 10 students were asked to complete the statement "AVID is...", their responses included Collaborative, Hardworking, Studious, Worthwhile, Organized, Learning, Versatile, Entertaining, and Skilled. These words are truly fitting for our CHS WOLVES, and it's awesome seeing their sense of pride in being both AVID students and being part of the CHS family.
