The Weekly Word from CDS FP - October 29-November 2, 2018
Looking Back
Hi Everyone,
A big thank you to the PTA members who donated their time and effort to decorate the FP halls and library with Halloween decorations. The building looks fantastic, and the students loved it. Also in the library was the the display by Mr. Baker of the students’ Halloween themed writing. If you have not yet, please do stop in and read the scary writing submissions - they’re great!
Spirit week was full of activity: early in the week, each class carved jack-o-lanterns; later in the week students sampled pumpkin seeds as a result of all their hard work cleaning and preparing the pumpkins and separating the seeds from the pulp.
Students showed how they can be unique on Misfit Monday; see some pictures below of some of the wacky outfits!
Students celebrated their similarities on Twin Tuesday and dressed in unison with a friend.
Hallowednesday was a day full of activities. Students trick-or-treated through middle school, high school and the administrative offices. All afternoon was dedicated to Halloween with PK, K, and 1 rotating through halloween-themed music, art and PE activities. Meanwhile, the 2s and 3s bravely entered the G4 haunted house - frightful it was! Overall, a day rich with cultural experiences for the children.
Thursday, students showed their CDS pride and spirit by wearing Dalton clothes from the past. Well done, everyone!
Thank to you all who attended the parent teacher conference. I heard feedback from the teachers about meaningful conversations that took place during the day. Thank you for taking the time to communicate about your child’s success.
The winter season begins Monday, November 5. This is when the new Labs and ASP begin. Students signed up for Labs; parents signed up for ASPs. Please click on the links below to find the results.
Apologies for this newsletter going out late - we were at CI for the all-day Saturday and Sunday soccer Songdo 7s tournament. More on that, next week ~

In the Spotlight
This week we are featuring our G2 assistant teacher and Grade 1F. Thank you, Ms. Drews and Ms. Fursova!
G2 with Ms. Drews
This week to celebrate fall and Halloween, each class participated in pumpkin carving.
Here’s what some of the Grade 2 had to say about the event.
“Mr. Hill did tricks.” -Enseo when talking about the spider in the pumpkin.
“We take out seeds.” -Jaeyoung about the process.
When talking about the cooked pumpkin seeds, Julian said, “It was like the salty one was like broccoli, and the other one was very, very sweet.” When asked about the taste he said, “Good.”
Grade 1 with Ms. Fursova
This week grade 1 had an amazing time celebrating our differences, similarities, and Halloween. We went to middle and high school for trick or treating and used lovely manners. We learned why you say “trick or treat” and why a Jack-o-Lantern has that name. We also had an amazing time learning to carve a Jack-o-lantern with Mr. Hill. It was a truly eventful week and we were so happy to have this experience.
