TIme Management and Study Skills

It is important that your student develops strong time management and study skills to help them be successful at Arabia Mountain High School. The development of these skills will help students to better manage classroom and homework assignments while at the same time helping them to perform better on assessments. It is imperative that students break larger projects or tasks into smaller pieces to help them manage them better. Encouraging your student to study daily, by reviewing class notes, completing practice problems, and previewing course content are a few ways to help them to gain a better understanding of the course content. It is encouraged that students spend time grappling with course material, as this is a significant part of their learning.

Below are a few ways your student can improve time management skills:

  • Create a master schedule. Having all responsibilities and activities listed in one place will give your teen a better understanding of how much time is available.
  • Prioritize. Your teen should review the calendar often to see if there are activities that conflict with or don’t allow time for schoolwork and studying every day. If band practice is three days a week, your teen may need to adjust a part-time job schedule.
  • Create a weekly schedule. At the start of the week, your teen should transfer items from the calendar to a weekly planner. Seeing what needs to be accomplished for the week will help your student stay on track.
  • Plan each day. Help your teen get into the habit of making daily to-do lists that prioritize schoolwork. If there are no assignments to complete or studying to do, your teen should use the time to read, review, or get started on an upcoming assignment.
  • Take advantage of technology. Digital calendars are great tools to help students manage time and keep them informed on the go. Suggest that your teen set up reminders a few days before an assignment is due or five minutes before study time is scheduled to begin.

Earning Parent Volunteer Hours

Parent involvement has been the key to the continued success of the students at Arabia Mountain High School. Each year Arabia Mountain High School parents/guardians must complete 10 hours of volunteer service hours each year to maintain enrollment at AMHS. Parents can volunteer at the school or school events to earn their volunteer hours or provide donations of $105.00 ($10.50 = 1 volunteer hour).

It is the responsibility of the coach/sponsor of the organization to provide the list of their parent volunteers and hours to Ms. Bills at the conclusion season or event. Parents need to be sure they are signing in at all events to ensure an accurate account of their volunteer hours. Please click the file below to see some of the ways you can earn your volunteer hours. We look forward to seeing you at AMHS!!!!
