Board to Vote on Final Budget Reduction Recommendations

We updated families and staff in a previous We are ALL WDMCS newsletter on progress made in finalizing a $2.5-$3.5 million budget reduction for the 2021-22 school year.

District leadership finalized a $3.035 million budget reduction recommendation based on several factors:

  • The Long-Range Planning Committee's three top budget packages.
  • Feedback from a community survey shared with families, students, and staff regarding the top three packages.
  • Additional research completed on opportunities to allocate some budget line items to a different fund.
  • increased non-personnel budget reductions across the district.

We received positive feedback from committee members who volunteered several hours over a six-week period to develop budget packages. Their work, combined with broader community input, guided the final steps in the process.

The WDMCS Board of Education will review and vote on the recommendation at their regular meeting Monday, March 8. This meeting will be livestreamed.

WDMCS, MercyOne Partner for COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics

On Saturday, Feb. 20, and Saturday, Feb. 27, MercyOne partnered with us to offer West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) employees first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Approximately 400 employees received a vaccine on one of the two days.

Special thanks to Valley/VSW PTO parents who provided bags of treats for staff to take with them after completing their vaccination.

Check out a video celebrating the first clinic on Feb. 20.
