Principal's Message
Congratulations to the Madagascar cast and crew for a phenomenal performance! Our students put much passion and enthusiasm into our musical this year and it showed on the stage last night. Thank you to all of the families who supported this endeavor and did everything from arranging later pick ups for rehearsals to painting faces and calming some last minute stage fright during the performances. I was especially impressed with the crew that came in on a Saturday and transformed the stage into New York City. A huge thanks to our staff that gave an incredible amount of time to make this year's production happen. Ms. Jetton, Ms. Elizabeth, Mr. Bush, and Mr. Clark made a terrific team. We could create our own walk of fame with all of the superstars in our community!
The main campus had a special visit from our kindergartners on Wednesday. Seeing them reminded me of how few days of school we have left. They have grown so much and look like first graders! Our fifth graders made a field trip to West Sylvan today and have definitely grown into mature middle-schoolers. It seems like the year just started and our children our growing up in the blink of an eye. Thankfully, we still have a few more days left (nine, to be exact) and much fun to have with each other before the end of the year.

Counselor's Corner
Dear Chapman Community,
Wow, we are approaching the close of yet another wonderful school year. The time has come for me to announce my bittersweet farewell to Chapman. After almost a decade, I am closing this chapter in order to embrace a new professional opportunity. It is difficult to say goodbye to the kids, the staff, and a community that feels like family.
As I reflect on my magical time here, some of my fondest memories include; picture days with shiny shoes and bowties, well-earned run for the arts blisters, art ball extravaganzas, lovely hallway conversations, and planning my outfits for the annual auction. Plus, going back a few years, some of you may remember Round-Ups that included proclamations of, “You Look Fabulous!”
One of my best memories is one of sitting with a friend outside of Dragonfly Coffee on a sunny afternoon. Car after car would pull up to the stop sign and kids would hang out the window yelling, “Hi Ms. Cox!” My friend watched patiently and finally said, “My goodness, what’s going on?” I said, “I get to work with these kids. I have the greatest job in the world.”
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve Chapman students doing what I love the most; teaching classroom guidance lessons, playing with toys, and having meaningful conversations. While writing this goodbye, my heart is heavy. Looking back, I have had the privilege of seeing many children through their entire elementary years from kindergarten through the fifth grade.
Moving forward, by now you all know my school counseling colleague Ms. Ariel Frager. Chapman is in good hands with her knowledge, expertise and big heart.
I will begin my next school counseling adventure at the Creative Science School in Southeast Portland. I welcome any chance to stay in touch with Chapman families and staff. Feel free to drop me an email and I will swing by in September to celebrate the return of the beloved swifts.
A Difficult Goodbye,
Stephanie
