Note from Mrs. Carder

What a wonderful start to the 2018-19 school year. The students are figuring out all the procedures of their classroom and school. They have done a great job!

I hope you have been able to stop by the school and see the great classrooms and beautiful building. The custodians and teachers have worked really hard to prepare the building for the students.

Thank you to the many following drop off and pick up procedures. Safety is always our number one concern and being patient and following the procedures helps all be safe. The number one thing you can do to help out is to display the bright yellow card and pull as far forward as you are able. Remember if you are walking up to pick up your child, please allow the car line to pull forward before walking across.

If you have any questions or concern throughout the school year please check with your child's teacher first and then if needed I will be happy to conference with you. Many issues are resolved quickly when the parent and teacher connect and communicate. We all want the best for each child and communication is the best way to make that happen!

Hopefully you can attend our Open House on September 25. This is a great time to look at your child's work and see where they spend their day and say hello to all their teachers. Don't forget to sign up for parent-teacher conference time as well.

For the Students,

Angie Carder

Principal at Wanda Gray Elementary

Leaders of the Month - Click Here to See the Student Leaders of the Month

Here is the link to the Leaders of the Month! Congratulations! They will receive a special letter home, a certificate on the bulletin board, and recognition at the Celebration Assembly.

Teacher and Staff of the Month

Congratulations to Cathy Barrett for being the teacher of the month. She works on several key committees that benefit kids at teachers at Gray. She is an extremely hard worker and a great team player!

Congratulations to Davy Walker on being staff member of the month! He will do anything for any staff member and keeps our building shiny and beautiful!

If you plan to eat lunch with your child there is a parent table where you and your child may enjoy lunch together. No other students should eat with you. This policy is for safety and space. About 500 students are in the cafeteria for their 30 minute lunch between 11:00 - 12:45. It is a very busy place!

#Kindness Counts

The school theme this year we are doing with the students is #KindnessCounts. We are teaching the students about 3 ways to practice kindness to self and others: 1. With our Attitude - 2. With our Words - 3. With our Actions.

Students will earn kindness tickets and be celebrated at lunch with a fun cheer. We will also do little drawings for prizes as well to keep students motivated and focused on being kind.

4th Grade Leadership Jobs

The 4th graders that applied for a building wide leadership position received their jobs for 1st semester. We will have a new application for the 2nd semester in January. These jobs support the entire building in various aspects. We are proud of these 4th grade leaders! Click here to see their jobs!

The Counseling Corner

I am so excited to start another year with Wanda Gray! I love meeting our new students and their families, and reconnecting with returning ones. Classroom counseling lessons are beginning, and will continue on a biweekly basis. At the beginning of the year we talk about who the school counselor is and what my job is here at school. We quickly move into lessons on identifying and coping with strong feelings. We will also start learning about what Kindness Count is all about! Look for writing, activity pages or projects to come home from counseling lessons. Talk with your child about what they learned in the lesson and how they can use the information or skill at home also. Please feel free to contact me any time with questions or concerns.

Our building goal for attendance is 96% and so far we are meeting the goal! The number one way to help your child feel successful at school is to have them at school on time ready to learn. Please help us make our goal each month. The top class each month gets a crown and classroom games for indoor recess. Our other goal is to be in the Top 3 schools for having the best attendance. We can do it! Let's go Wildcats!

Conscious Discipline

Our staff is learning about conscious discipline this year! If you would like to understand what we are learning about below is a short video about the basics of conscious discipline. You might like some of these ideas or information for use at home.
