The student will identify question types to comprehend text.


The intended purpose of the Answer know how is for students to build and further their comprehension skills through questioning, as well as categorizing the type of questions students are answering.

Header cards

Activity directions:

  1. Place header cards face up in a row. Place question cards face down in a stack. Provide each student with a copy of the passage

  2. Taking turns, students read the passage.

  3. Select the top card from the stack and read it aloud. For example, "What can you learn

    from Marty?" Decide what type of question it is (i.e., Author and Me).

  4. Place under appropriate header card.

  5. Continue until all cards are sorted.

  6. Peer evaluation


Students can create their own questions that could be asked after the reading

Use questions from another passage and sort them under their corresponding titles.
