A note from Mrs Lawrence...
Many of you are members of WhatsApp groups that connect parents in a particular class. Lots of us here at school are also parents ourselves and so we understand how useful these groups are to share information such as reminders about school events and arrangements.
Occasionally, however, comments may be posted in these groups that are inappropriate.
If you have a query or concern about a specific school issue, teacher or the leadership it is always best to talk to the school directly. Face to face is always the best way. It allows us to establish the facts and deal with the matter quickly.
Please also remember that anything you post in these groups can be forwarded on to other people and can quickly spread beyond its intended readership.
Thank you for your understanding.

Reception Baseline Assessment Pilot
Along with many other schools, we are participating in the national pilot year for the new baseline assessment. This project is being carried out by the National Foundation Educational Research on behalf of the Standards and Testing Agency (STA), which is an executive agency of Department for Education.
The DfE plan to use the results of the pilot baseline assessment solely for analysis concerned with creating the primary accountability progress measure.
Attached to this letter is the ‘Reception baseline assessment: information sheet’ which provides information for parents. I am sure you will agree that it is important for our school to have a voice in new national strategies.
Please see the additional information below.

Dear parents and carers,
The JLT talked about Harvest this week. We have made some changes, which we would like to share with you.
This year we will not be walking to the church and back. Instead we are going to have a harvest assembly at school on 4th October, where we will sing harvest songs and say prayers. We would like to invite the elderly members of our community to join us, along with the residents of Grove House. This way we can show members of our wider community how proud we are of the school, and after the assembly we will be having tea and biscuits with them and sharing SMPS news.
We discussed the lives of some people who are not lucky enough to have good food every day and how within our community the need for food is not as great. As a result, we will be asking everyone to bring in tins of food that are well within their use-by date to give to the food bank, or donations of money. We thought this would be an excellent example of how lots of people, by doing just a little bit each, can pool together and have a big impact.
Thank you for you support in this matter.
From the Junior Leadership team (JLT)
House Captains
Let me introduce our new Year 6 House captains.
They delivered fantastic manifestoes on Monday to their whole team. Children then used their democratic rights to vote for a candidate of their choosing.
Perhaps, the government could learn a thing or two about the British Value of democracy from our wonderful year 6 children.

Phonics evening
We are excited to invite the Reception parents to our phonics evening on Tuesday 1st October at 6pm. This is a great opportunity for you to see how phonics is taught to the children in their class and how you can then help with learning at home. It is so important that there is consistency with reading between school and home to ensure the most successful readers!
There will also be an opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding Tapestry at this event.
We look forward to seeing you there.
