Mill Creek Magic Messages

News and Updates from Mr. Ortman and Mr. Murtha 12/2/2022

Mill Creek Supports Team USA!

The World Cup is on, and Team USA had a HUGE soccer (football, for most of the rest of the world) match on Tuesday. They needed to win in order to advance in the Tournament, so Mill Creek decided to send them some positive mojo by wearing Red, White, and Blue this past Tuesday. Goals have been at premium for the United States during their first 3 World Cup matches, but our defense has been incredible, so we managed to pull out the win on Tuesday. Mill Creek would like to think that our spirit and energy gave the U.S. Men's Soccer Team that little more they needed to move on. The United States' has truly been working as a team, which is something we work to build here at Mill Creek, too!

Go, Team USA!

FROM MR. ORTMAN and MR. MURTHA

We have made our way into December and the excitement of the Winter Holiday Season! The Holiday Season brings a flurry of fun and activities both outside of school and in school. In school, we look forward to Holiday-themed classroom activities, our annual Holiday Sing, the Winter Music Concert (Band, Strings, and Choir - Community Performance at 7 PM on 12/19), some Holiday-themed spirit days during the week leading up to Winter Break, and Holiday Classroom Celebrations to be held on the afternoon of Thursday, December 22.

We love the Winter Holidays, as they involve a great deal of fun and celebration, but they also provide us with an opportunity to recognize and learn about many different Holidays celebrated during this wonderful time of year and the ability to share a variety of different Holiday traditions from many cultures.

As Holiday Classroom Celebrations will be here before we know it, we want to communicate a few items:

  • Home and School asks that parent volunteers for Holiday Classroom Celebrations be limited to no more than 4 parents per classroom.
  • Although restrictions on food (other than allergy-related) are not in place, it has become good practice to individually wrap items you send in when possible.
  • If balloons are sent in as part of a classroom celebration, please make sure they are mylar, as latex balloons are not permitted.

We look forward to sharing this Holiday Season with you, and we appreciate all of your support in making it extra-special for our students!

Instructional Spotlight - Ms. Zeoli, 5th Grade

Ms. Zeoli's 5th Grade students have been working for a number of weeks now on their Personal Narrative writing assignment. The work has involved a good deal of drafting, editing, second drafts, more editing, third drafts, and sometimes more! Well, we finally... after A LOT of hard work... have a finished product, and now it is time to celebrate! This past Wednesday, Ms. Zeoli held a Publishing Party where parent visitors came to view video readings of their child's final product, along with the works of some other students. Ms. Zeoli coordinated students/parents into groups of 5-6 student presenters, in which the Personal Narratives were proudly shared and celebrated!

Great work Zeolis!

Health Education Instructional Topic Opt In

Following Thanksgiving Break, elementary students in grades K-6 came home with letters asking parents to indicate whether they would like to opt their child in to the Health Instruction topic of Personal Safety (K-6), to be delivered by the Health and PE teacher. Families have the choice to opt in to have their child receive Personal Safety Instruction. Later in the school year, letters will also be sent out for opt ins to the topics below, as well (relevant to grade levels impacted):

  • Human Growth and Development (4-6)
  • HIV/AIDS (5-6)

Thank you, and please be on the lookout for the Personal Safety opt in forms for signing and returning to school by December 9.

Student Laptop Expectations

Central Bucks Technology & Innovation Department is asking us to stress the importance of laptop case use for students (grades 3-6) when they transport their laptops and when laptops are not in use for extended periods of time. At school, we will be stressing the importance and reminding students of the need to put their laptop in its case during these times (e.g. when taking a laptop from their classroom to specials class). We ask that you stress these practices at home, too. Thank you for your support!

Additionally, if your child loses or misplaces their laptop case, please reach out to the Mill Creek Main Office.

District Laptop and iPad Care

Central Bucks Innovation and Technology Department has asked us to communicate the following regarding District-issued laptop and iPad care...

  • Please encourage your children to use their laptop/iPad bags for carrying devices in school, at home, and to and from each location.
  • Please encourage your children to report issues/problems with their devices, so they can be properly address and fixed as soon as possible.
  • The laptop/iPad payment fee covers accidental damage. Intentional damage may result in a family being billed for the damage.

Schools will be communicating these messages in school as well.

We appreciate your support!

Inclement Weather Procedures for Car Riders - Dismissal

We ask that, on inclement weather days, car riders post a placard with the student(s) family last name, so we can call in names for quicker dismissal. We will do our best to send a message out earlier in the day if we believe inclement weather dismissal is necessary for car riders. Feel free to use the placard template below if you find it helpful.
