Senior Spotlight: Early Decision Admissions
This past week, a remarkable number of seniors were offered admission to their Early Decision schools. Given that it is a binding agreement, applying ED to a university demonstrates great interest. To this end, students must ensure that they are committed to attend the school if admitted. While this may seem like a risk, it significantly raises the likelihood of getting in, which makes it a viable option for many.
This year, our Seniors have already enrolled in prestigious institutions such as New York University, University of Miami, Vanderbilt University, Tulane University, Babson College, and Emerson College based on Early Decision applications. For Early Action or Regular Decision applications, students have gained admittance into Loyola University Chicago, Loyola University New Orleans, Fordham University, Baylor University, and Florida International University, among others. Many students are still waiting for decisions from other schools, so we are confident that this list will only grow. We are so proud of our Seniors and how hard they have worked to achieve their goals. Congratulations, and know that college is only the beginning of many successes to come!

Student Government's Annual Toy Drive
Riviera Preparatory School's Student Government Association hosted its annual toy drive. Our Bulldogs have donated a plethora of toys and pajamas for kids ranging from ages 1-17. All of the toys and pajamas were donated to Fight Like a Kid, an organization for children battling cancer. We have received utmost support from our Riviera families and hope to continue the holiday spirit. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Inside the Art Studio: Pottery Wheel
This fall, in Mrs. Horne’s ceramics class, students who are present in the studio have not only been working on their current project but also have been taking turns perfecting their skills with the pottery wheel.
Students have learned to center their clay in the middle of the wheel and pull the clay in an upward motion to create a bowl or vase. This is a lot harder than it seems as one wrong movement can ruin their masterpiece in a matter of seconds. This skill takes weeks just to learn how to create a small dipping bowl, but once mastered, it is the most exciting dipping bowl the students have ever seen. The pottery wheel technique has taught students to focus on the whole process instead of just producing a simple piece. The students are now excelling with the wheel and don’t want to get off it.

Honduras Hurricane Relief
As a collaborative effort, our Riviera Family has taken charge and made a generous amount of donations for the Honduras Hurricane Relief. Recently, Honduras was severely affected by Hurricane Eta. It brought about widespread flooding and forced thousands of people out of their homes. The level of destruction was one of the worst in history, with the hurricane being a category 5. This hurricane put even more chaos and confusion on top of the current COVID-19 pandemic, which had already depleted government resources and left many unemployed. This all happened in one of the poorest countries in Latin America. The healing in Honduras will take years, but we have already started making an impact on the affected families. From towels to bedsheets, every donation was very appreciated. We want to thank everyone who donated. We have yet again aided those less fortunate than we, and we cannot thank you enough for your most generous donations!
