Term 2 is the season for cross country running. After the completion of our TPS cross country, we took a team of 40 runners to the South Cluster event at Waipuna Park last week. This race is a lot more challenging than the one at Memorial Park, as the race is longer, includes wooden hurdles the athletes must jump, and a gruelling hill part way through which some ascend on hands and knees.
Congratulations to the following runners who placed in the top 7 in their respective races:
Tessa Baxter and Timothy Cresswell both blitzed the course winning the Year 5 Girls and Year 5 Boys races comfortably.
Mauritz Muller was not too far behind Timothy in the Year 5 Boys race coming in 2nd overall.
Kate Faitl ran a great race and finished 3rd in the Year 6 Girls.
Grace Bell-Booth had a very tight finish with a sprint for 2nd, 3rd and 4th places. Grace placed 4th in the Year 4 Girls.
Molly Hyett also competed well and finished 5th in the Year 5 Girls.
These 6 students then joined the South Cluster team and headed back up to Waipuna Park yesterday to compete in the WBOP Cross Country Championships. This involves the best runners from all of the primary schools in the Tauranga region, therefore a big step up in competitiveness and intensity. All of the TPS kids performed well.
Congratulations to the following runners who placed in the Top 15 and will now go to the BOP Championships next week:
Tessa Baxter and Timothy Cresswell both finished 2nd in their Year 5 races.
Molly Hyett came 13th in the year 5 Girls.
Good Luck for next week!
The TPS Year 5 & 6 RIP Rugby Team competed at the BOP RIP Rugby World Cup last week after winning the South and West Cluster Tournament a couple of weeks ago. The World Cup was held in Paengaroa, as all of the teams were travelling from Tauranga, Whakatane and Rotorua. Our pool play games were tight and exciting. Unfortunately, we lost 3 and won 2, which meant we played for 7th and 8th place in the crossovers. This was another close game, losing by one try, and finishing 8th overall in the BOP region. Well done to all of the players for their efforts throughout the day, they showed lots of improvement and a never give up attitude. Thank you to all of the parents who travelled to support the team on the sidelines.
Last Friday, the TPS Hot Shots Year 3 & 4 Basketball Team participated in the Tauranga City Basketball World Cup. The team had a very hard draw playing A grade teams in their first few rounds, but once pool play was completed, the team had some great battles on the basketball court. The Hot Shots won this first crossover game and had a narrow loss in their second. Well done to the team for giving it their all throughout the tournament.
