Passion Projects
in three simple steps
What is a Passion Project?
Do you like asking questions? A Passion Project involves asking questions and exploring your personal interest. A Passion Project is something you are excited and curious about. It can be anything from learning about plants, to how to make a mobile, or wondering how the idea of dragons came to be.
Step 1: Start with asking a question
You might start with asking a general question like:
How do I grow a garden in the Yukon?
As you do research your questions will become more specific like:
Can I regrow grow lettuce I bought from the Yukon Gardens?
Step 2: Do some research
Where can you find answers to your questions?
- read a book
- ask an expert
- google search
- watch a video
- do an experiment
Step 3: create and share
Now is the time to take action by using the information you gathered during your research.
- try that experiment
- practice an instrument
- write a song
- build a model
- plant some lettuce
See what happens and share what you learn with others. Sharing with others helps you reflect on what works and what you want to try next.
Passion Project Example
Can lettuce regrow?
First, I have been asking questions about how to grow food in the Yukon. Second, while researching on-line about how to grow kitchen gardens, I came across videos about regrowing vegetables purchased from the store. Third, I decided to tryout what I had learned after buying lettuce from Yukon Gardens, as the plant still had roots. The lettuce was eaten and the roots were put back in water. When new leaves began to grow the lettuce was placed in a pot of dirt and set on the shelf of our kitchen green house. Finally, my family and I shared this picture with others to show how the plant is growing. It seems to be doing quite well. Next, once it warms up outside I will put the lettuce outside to grow.
