UpStanders Club Update

We had an awesome turnout of students interested in joining Upstanders! Due to the high numbers at the informational meeting, we would like students to fill out a short application so that we know how many students are still interested. This group meets every first and third Wednesday during FLEX. Students applying need to understand that they will be giving up FLEX time to work on Upstanders' projects on those two Wednesdays each month. The projects address issues and topics that the students choose. If your student would like to apply, please go to this link. While we would love every student at GHMS to be an Upstander, this particular group will have a max of 25-30 students so that Mrs. Harms can work with them to insure their ideas and projects are successful!

If your student isn't selected, Mrs. Harms will reach out to him/her to see if s/he would like to still be involved throughout the year by signing up to be door greeters or participate in other projects when possible.

GHMS Celebrates Our Veterans / Theme: Voices of Our Veterans

This year, GHMS, will host a Veterans Day Breakfast to honor and recognize our community Veterans. During the next several weeks as we lead into November, our students will be learning about Veterans Day with the focus: Voices of our Veterans.

We hope to honor and serve those who have served our country with a gesture of a family mealtime breakfast. Family meals provide an opportunity for family members to come together, build community and belonging, as well as establish bonds and learn together. We hope we will have many of our community Veterans join us.

Please complete this form if you are a Veteran.

Let’s all be #differencemakers this year!

Begin with the End in Mind (Determination) Habit #2

We are more than half-way through our 1st nine weeks. As you and your student(s) review grades, please note any missing assignments, incompletes, or zeros. We expect our students to complete their work as assigned and meet designated deadlines as determined by the teacher for assignments. It is important to ask the student why s/he may have any incomplete, missing work, or zeros. In order to attend our end of the 1st quarter incentive, students cannot have any missing assignments, must be passing all of his/her classes, and cannot have spent more than 11 periods in our ISS room which includes STOP visits (Student Time-Out Periods, Lunch Detentions, and Office Referrals). We do offer restorative practices for students in ISS. Students who receive Out of School Suspensions are not able to attend our end of the nine weeks incentive event. Our Make Today Count program was communicated to our students during our first few days of school. I encourage you to check your student's Make Today Count (MTC) sheet to see how she/he is doing overall with this program. During the nine weeks, your student(s) have a variety of additional opportunities to complete their work such as working lunches, FLEX time, before school appointments, and in some cases, after school appointments when the teacher's schedule permits. Late work acceptance is determined by the grade level subject and teacher. If you have any questions regarding a grade or assignment, please reach out to the specific teacher who will have first hand knowledge and best be able to assist you and your student.
