SHISD Mid-Week Message
Weekly Superintendent's Message for Spring Hill ISD
Independence
Panther Nation,
Today is one of my favorite days of the year, Texas Independence Day! As I reflect on the meaning of this day and the events that occurred 4 days later at the Alamo, I realize that this state (and one time nation) has been blessed with many brave men and women and many heroes. It is hard to believe that the men and women of the Alamo had no idea that independence was declared 4 days earlier and yet they stayed and fought for a cause they believed in. A cause that six weeks later on April 21st, would lead the Texas Army to victory and secure Texas' Independence as a nation for the next 10 years.
If you look closely at the Texas Declaration of Independence, one main complaint to the Mexican government was that no system of public education had been established. Here is an excerpt: (Mexico) has failed to establish any public system of education, although possessed of almost boundless resources, (the public domain,) and although it is an axiom in political science, that unless a people are educated and enlightened, it is idle to expect the continuance of civil liberty, or the capacity for self government..
Today those words still ring true. The future of Texas is dependent on a strong public education system that prepares our students for an uncertain, yet bright future. If Texas was still a country today, it would rank 10th in the world and have a daily workforce of 12 million people. Energy, heath care, and technology make Texas a very diverse economic destination. I am thankful that the teachers of Spring Hill are doing their part to produce graduates able to compete and thrive in today's workforce and that public education in Texas is strong! As this week is also Texas Public School Week, I want to thank all Texas educators for continuing to fight for a cause they believe in, the children of Texas. - Steve Snell, Superintendent SHISD

SPRING HILL EDUCATION FOUNDATION BLUE OUT BINGO – FEBRUARY 25, 2017
Spring Hill Education Foundation held our annual fundraiser this past Saturday at The Reserve in Longview. The theme this year was BLUE OUT BINGO! Everyone enjoyed an exciting night filled with numerous prizes up for grabs! The event kicked off at 6:00 pm with a catered meal by Bodacious BBQ. Guests were also treated to pastries and cookies provided by Hospitality Health ER and Kern’s Bakery, specialty coffees by Coffee Mill and also Organic Cotton Candy by The Happy Angels Gourmet.
Emcee John Borens guided us through an eventful evening of Bingo games in the name of fun! The evening also included live and silent auctions to raise funds to support our Grants for Teachers Program. Through the continued support of our sponsors and our Spring Hill staff and community, we had a VERY SUCCESSFUL event! Our biggest thanks and appreciation to everyone involved!
