Student Spotlights
Elementary School Honoree – Harper Ranson
Harper is a great student to have in class. She works hard every day, always participates, and always tries her best with everything that she does. She gets along with everyone and is a bright light in our room. She has a positive attitude all of the time and gives 100% effort every day.
Getting to know Harper:
- What do you most enjoy about University School? “I like that’s it’s challenging. I think that prepares us for older grades. I think it’s fun.”
- If you were awarded a lifetime supply of any one candy, what would you pick? “This is a hard question because I love candy. I guess I’d pick Jolly Ranchers. I think they are really good and they last a while when you are eating them.”
- Who has had the largest positive impact on your life? “I’d say my friend Abby. She’s been a really good friend to me. We’ve been friends since we were in diapers.”
“I look forward to seeing Harper's smiling face every day,” said Ms. Paiton Chambers, Harper’s 4th-grade teacher. “She shows up excited and ready to learn. I’ve learned to be more positive from Harper. She is sweet, kind, and caring. I know I can count on her to do the right thing and always bring joy to our class!”
Middle School Honoree – Hudson Bolton
Hudson is caring and does his best in all his endeavors. Hudson says goodbye to each teacher every day and wishes us the best on his way home.
Getting to know Hudson:
- What do you most enjoy about University School? “I’d say two things: first, how nice the teachers usually are. Secondly, I have a lot friends here and like hanging out with them.”
- If you were awarded a lifetime supply of any one candy, what would you pick? “This is a difficult decision. There are lots of candies that I like. I guess I’d pick either Dots or Hershey’s chocolate bar. Dots are gumdrops that come in lots of different flavors. That would be a hard choice. I like Hershey bars a lot also.”
- Who has had the largest positive impact on your life? “My parents, friends, and teachers. My parents have always taken care of me. My friends because they’ve been good to me and keep me from being lonely. My teachers are nice and help prepare me for future classes.”
“Hudson has extreme compassion for his peers and his teachers,” commented Ms. Leah Darnell, Hudson’s ELA teacher. “He is kind and caring.”
High School Honoree – Ella Barnett
Ella is so kind and helpful. She is a student worker in the library and she goes above and beyond to help. She gives 100% in all that she does and will often stay over to make sure jobs are completed or cleaned up.
Getting to know Ella:
- What do you most enjoy about University School? “I like that it is small. It gives me a chance to see my friends in most of my classes. I’ve met my best friends here.”
- If you were awarded a lifetime supply of any one candy, what would you pick? “I’d pick the almond Hershey kisses. They taste really good. They are probably my favorite candy.”
- Who has had the largest positive impact on your life? “My mom and dad have had the largest impact on me. They’ve always provided for me, given me love and support, and set a good example for my brother and me.”
"Ella is a natural leader,” said Mrs. Lindsay Lester, U-School librarian. “She is kind and always willing to go the extra mile. She works hard and doesn’t stop until the job is done and done well. She is a joy to be around and is nice to everyone she meets!”

Thank a Teacher
November is the month that we slow down and think about the things that we are grateful for. Here at the University School Foundation we are thankful for our teachers and staff. Thank you to everyone who has already responded. Please continue to help us thank them for all that they do by filling out this google form for our 2nd annual Wall of Gratitude.
