Volunteer Appreciation Week April 23-27th

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! to all of our amazing volunteers at Jackson Elementary. We truly appreciate all you do for us; at home, in the classroom, workroom, PTO, field trips, Jr. Achievement, Art Adventure, fall Book Fair and any other way you help and support our students and staff. So far this year we have had over 300 volunteers put in over 3,000 hours at Jackson for our students and staff. This is SO AWESOME! We truly appreciate every volunteer and everything you do for us! THANK YOU!

If you are not signed up as a volunteer and would like to please email Jennifer Klecker at jklecker@shakopee.k12.mn.us or call 952-496-5802.

Nurse Notes by Nurse Andrea

The clothing supply in the Nurse's Office at Jackson is incredibly lucky to have such giving families! When a child has an accident or spills on their clothes at school, we have clean clothing that they can change into. But, our supply is running low and the Nurse's Office is in need of some clothing! If you have any of the following items (clean and gently used or new) please donate them to Jackson! Thank you for helping!

  • Pants (sizes 6-9, boys and girls)--sweatpants and leggings are preferred but we will take jeans too
  • Shirts (sizes 5T-youth XLarge, boys and girls)

Art Lines from Mr. Olson

Greetings from the Art Department! SPRING is here! That means we have started our projects for Literacy and Beyond Night on Thursday, April 26th! All of us here at Jackson hope you can join us for this special night celebrating our students's work! Look for flyers coming home with the students during April that detail all of the fun activities at this event. The projects that will be on display that evening will include:

  • Kindergarten -- Spreading My Wings
  • First Grade -- My Lovey!
  • Second Grade -- I Am Healed
  • Third Grade -- If You're Not From Minnesota
  • Fourth Grade -- Color Of My Mood!
  • Fifth Grade -- Time To Go

We started these projects in March and every student will have their work on display April 26th!

Also, I will be taking the third graders to the Mpls. Institute of Arts Friday, May 18th. Look for permission slips coming home at the beginning of May. They will get to see work by many of the artists and styles they have studied. This is also in conjunction with the Art Adventure Program they had in class.

Physical Education Fun with Mr. Casey, Mrs. Johanson, and Mrs. Tanberg

It is a busy time of year in Physical Education for Jackson Elementary students. With spring upon us, we are finishing our units, getting ready for fitness testing and preparing for Track and Field Dates.

Students have just completed their Hockey unit where they have learned: how to hold a hockey stick, passing, dribbling, and shooting. Along with that students were taught the rules of the game and were split up into teams and had team play. It's a fun and popular unit and great exercise for all of our students.

With spring approaching, fitness tests will be coming up. Help your child prepare by practicing one of the four tests: push-ups, curl-ups, sit & reach, and the mile run. Remember being active and working on each individual fitness component may help increase their strength and endurance.

Track and Field Days will be coming up in May for Grades 1-5. We are in need of parents to work the ribbon table so if you are interested please contact the Physical Education staff (jcasey@shakopee.k12.mn.us or kjohanso@shakopee.k12.mn.us). This year's Track and Field Event Dates are:

  • Monday, May 7th for 1st Grade
  • Tuesday, May 8th for 2nd Grade
  • Wednesday, May 9th for 3rd Grade
  • Thursday, May 10th for 4th Grade
  • Friday, May 11th for 5th Grade

Look for information being sent out on National Bike/Walk to School Day taking place on May 4th (the event takes place in the morning before school starts). We are always looking for volunteers to help with this event before (most need) and after school. If this is something you can help with, let us know.

As always, you are always welcome into our classroom!

PTO News

Hello Jackson Families! I want to say THANK YOU to the many volunteers we have had to help out this year. We would not be able to have the events that we do without the help of our awesome Jackson community. We are excited for the remainder of the school year and hope to connect with you at a future event. Remember you can always stay connected through our Jackson Parents Page on Facebook and our Twitter account @PTOJackson or email me directly at Jackson PTO28@gmail.com. I would love to hear your ideas to keep our Jackson Community great.

As always, THANK YOU for supporting our Jackson Community
