ALTA VISTA NEWS
Warm Weather Reminders
During today's PAWS & Pride assembly, students were reminded about ways to stay comfortable and cool during our upcoming summer preview weather.
* Remember to apply sunscreen before heading to school in the morning.
* Send your child with a water bottle. (We'll remind them to fill it throughout the day.)
* If they are feeling overheated, we will encourage them to take a break in the shade.
Student Council's next Frozen Friday Ice Cream Sale is this week. Beginning at 2:40, frozen treats will be sold on both the primary and intermediate playgrounds for $1.00.
Thank You
It is almost impossible to believe that we only have 31 days remaining in the school year. It has been an amazing year and many of our special events and programs could not have happened without the help and generosity of our Alta Vista volunteers. We would like to thank all of the people who donated their time in the classroom or behind the scenes at a Volunteer Appreciation Social on May 31st. You'll find the details below, along with a QR code to make it easy to RSVP.
Thank you for making a difference.
NEXT WEEK'S CAASPP TESTING CALENDAR
There are many ways to measure your child’s learning. Your child’s teacher uses report card grades, classroom work, teacher observations, and end-of-year statewide test results to get a complete picture of your child’s learning. Each spring, Alta Vista's third through fifth grade students participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).
All of our students have had a chance to experience the format of the assessment through practice tests completed in the classroom. This helps to reduce anxiety about the testing process. You can help by reminding your child that you and their teacher just want them to try their best. To help your children to "show what they know", be sure that your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a healthy breakfast before heading to school. Remember to allow plenty of time for morning routines, so that your child is not worried about being late to school.
We'll begin testing on Tuesday, setting aside our morning block (8:30-10:30) to focus on the CAASPP. You'll find the schedule for next week below.
TODAY'S PAWS & PRIDE ASSEMBLY
During the last PAWS & Pride Assemblies, each grade level shares a highlight from the school year. Today, we had the opportunities to learn about fourth grade's Gold Rush Day.
