Discovery Place Field Trip Information:

We are excited about our upcoming field trip to Discovery Place on this Thursday, January 7. Please let Mrs. Munn know if you have any questions: ( )

  • We will be leaving the school around 8:30 AM and returning around 1:30 PM. If at all possible please make sure your student is here on time.
  • Students that ordered a shirt, should have received it today. Please have students wear this shirt on Thursday. If a student did not purchase a shirt, but he/she has another Banks Trail shirt or a purple, black, or grey shirt, can you please have them wear that on Thursday.
  • Students will be responsible for keeping up with their jackets.
  • Students will need to pack a disposable bagged lunch, that does not need to be refrigerated, for the field trip.
  • There is a souvenir shop. Students may bring money to purchase items, but it is their responsibility to keep up with the money.
  • No book bags are allowed. Only small purses, if needed, are allowed.
  • Students will not be allowed to have any electronic devices on the trip. We will ask students to put any electronics they bring with them to school on that day in their lockers before we leave.

A/B Day Schedule:

In trying to prepare the students for 7th/8th grade, we are going to start using A/B scheduling. A/B scheduling is where students will flip their academic schedules every other week. Related arts classes will remain the same regardless of if it is an A or B week This week is a A week, which is a normal schedule: 3rd, 4th, Lunch, 5th, and 6th. Next week will be a B week, which is when the students schedule will be flipped: 6th, 5th, Lunch, 4th, and 3rd. We will have signs posted to help ease the students into this process.

Report Cards:

Report cards will be sent home with students on Wednesday, January 6. Please make sure to ask your child for his/her report card. Please sign the envelope and send that back to the homeroom teacher by Monday, January 11. If you have any concerns about a specific grade, please contact that teacher.

Please make sure you check Parent Portal ( to see how your child is doing in his/her classes. If you should have a question about grades, please contact your child’s teacher directly.

If your child is ever out, please make sure to check each teachers’ websites for material covered in class that day. If you have any questions or concerns that are subject specific, please contact that teacher.

Welcome back – I hope you all had an enjoyable break with family and friends!

This week we will begin by taking notes on the fall of the Roman Empire and the rise of the Byzantine Empire. On Tuesday, we will complete atlas work and focus on the multiple reasons why the Roman Empire collapsed. On Wednesday and Friday (Thursday will be our field trip to Discovery Place), students will complete a web quest on the Byzantine Empire and begin reading Anna of Byzantium. During this reading time, students will focus on the Byzantine view of the Romans and the role of religion in the empire. Thank you and have a great week!
