How Schoolwork Will Work
Instructional staff are using the first three consecutive days of closure to finalize plans for remote learning. Beginning Wednesday, March 18, students will start receiving reinforcement and/or enrichment activities/tasks. If the school closure extends to and beyond Friday, March 27, a different set of guidelines for remote learning will be shared with students and families.
Teachers will communicate assignment specifics to students via their usual communication routes, including email, remind 101, and Google Classroom. School staff will work to complete access checks during the week of March 16th to make sure all students are able to access their coursework. Student work will be posted to Google Classroom and/or Managebac and parents can check in on their students' assignments using their students' access to these tools.
Teachers will hold at least two office hours a day to maintain consistent contact with students and families.
How to Get What You Need to Work
Healthy students who need to retrieve belongings from DHS may come in on Monday, March 16th or Wednesday, March 18th from 12 pm to 7 pm. Any student needing to check out a Chromebook should also come in at these times. We will have paper copies of some assignments available on Wednesday. To limit the number of students in the building at one time, we ask that students abide by the following schedule, where possible:
Last names A-H: 12:00-2:00 pm
Last names I-N: 2:00-4:00 pm
Last names O-T: 4:00-6:00 pm
Last names U-Z: 6:00-7:00 pm
Students should plan to enter through the doors nearest the library off of Commerce Drive. Students must not congregate while in the building and should plan to stay only long enough to retrieve belongings from their lockers. Chromebooks will be available in the DHS library. While parents may bring students to DHS, we ask that only students enter the building, unless medication or a Chromebook needs to be picked up. Medication must be picked up by a parent or guardian. Chromebooks can be picked up by either a parent or a student.
Medication in the DHS clinic should be retrieved by parents between 9 am and 2 pm on Monday, March 16th. If you are unable to retrieve your medications during this time, please contact Nurse Fletcher directly at hfletcher1@csdecatur.net.
Events
Senior Project Boards Night will be postponed and/or modified. Details will be communicated at a later date.
We will communicate details of April and May events, including prom and graduation, as we move closer to those events.
Testing
We are awaiting guidance from the College Board and DOE regarding AP and EOC testing. IB has moved some of our internal and external assessment deadlines for seniors. Teachers and IB coordinators will communicate these changes. We will communicate testing details as they are determined.
Who do I contact with questions?
All DHS staff will be working, either remotely or in person, during the closure. Any questions about specific courses should be addressed to teachers. If you have an administrative or counseling question, please use the chart below to find the appropriate counselor or administrator. If your student is currently not feeling well, but needs materials retrieved from DHS, please reach out to the appropriate administrator. If you need any support or assistance in any way, please reach out to an administrator. If we cannot provide that support, we will work to connect you with help.
Extracurricular Activites
All extracurricular activities are cancelled. No one may access the field or other facilities at DHS during this closure.
