Classroom Rules
This week, the Maples created their own rules for our first grade classroom. We started by generating hopes and dreams in Writing Workshop, writing about and illustrating what we'd like to learn this year. We then constructed a list of rules we would need to ensure that we can learn all the things we want to learn (potions! magic! where sap comes from! reading and writing! how to count to 1,000 by 11's! the list goes on...)
As a whole class, we we sorted the rules into three categories: Materials, Friends, and Classroom. At the end of it all we had three rules that we all agreed to follow to ensure a learning community of safety and love for each other and ourselves!
Step One: Brainstorm Rules
Step Two: Categorize
Step Three: Simplify, Paraphrase, and Make Into A Contract
Step Four: Sign!
Looking Forward...
Next week we will:
- Continue to build our reading stamina in Reading Workshop
- Introduce more classroom materials, such as markers and our writing folders
- Formally introduce our Take A Break spot to the class
- Continue to practice story problems and skip counting in Math Workshop
