Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you again for taking time out of your schedule over the past day and a half to partner with us at school during conferences. The home-school connection is always a key component to a successful school year. All of our staff will continue working hard to ensure a positive learning experience across all areas for your child through the end of the year!
On behalf of our amazing staff at Husmann, we want to wish all of our Husmann families a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving break. Our staff will be spending that time with their families and loved ones as well.
We will miss our Cougars, but know that we are all looking forward to seeing them again starting on Monday, November 28.
With Thanks and Appreciation,
Mr. Sromek & Ms. Fitzgerald

The cost will be $1.00 each. We will also have water bottles for $1.25. Students must have money on their lunch account or cash in hand to buy snacks. Snacks can not be charged. Please contact Beth Zender, Food Service Manager (Husmann Cafe), with any questions at 815-356-3409.
Husmann Bookroom
A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE HPTO!!! The Husmann Bookroom was in desperate need of an update and with HPTO help, we were able to add over 800 new books! These books will be used by the classroom teachers during small group reading time. Thank you again, the teachers and students are SO excited to have new books!
Husmann's Mitten Tree
Cougar Council is collecting new mittens, gloves, hats and scarves for children of all ages that are in need. If you’d like to donate a new item, please place it on the tree in the main entrance of Husmann between November 28-December 9. All collected items will be hung on the fences around Husmann for anyone who needs them! Your support is greatly appreciated!
Cold Weather Guidelines
Due to the many changes in weather this time of year we recommend students are prepared for whatever the day may bring. Please make sure your child is prepared with a warm jacket, hat, gloves, etc. If your child wishes to play in the snow at recess they must wear snow pants and boots or they will be asked to stay on the blacktop. Please also make sure your child has gym shoes on the days they have PE. Due to rain or snow it may also be a good idea to keep an extra pair of pants and socks in your child's locker. Please label your child's items. The guidelines established by district 47 during cold weather are as follows:
- 15 degrees or warmer- Unlimited time spent outside
- Zero to 15 degrees above zero- 20 minutes of time spent outside
- Below zero- Students remain indoors

Erin's Law
Hello Parents and Guardians!
We were so fortunate to have Victor Pacini come to Husmann in September to present his Be Seen and Heard© program for Erin’s Law. Be Seen and Heard© 2.0 is an age-appropriate, engaging curriculum that focuses on the difference between safe and unsafe touch and the importance of having trusted heroes, someone the child trusts and can turn to for help. To complete the Erin’s Law state mandate, we will be showing three 2-3 minute long follow-up videos during STEM class throughout the rest of the school year. These videos will be shown during the weeks of: December 5-9, February 6-10, and April 24-28. If you prefer your child not participate in this personal safety instruction, please submit your objection in writing to your child’s principal, Mr. Sromek before December 5. If you have already opted out, we have your earlier request.
To learn more about Erin’s Law or the Be Seen and Heard©2.0 curriculum, visit www.erinslaw.org or www.victorpacini.com. Victor has created an informational video for families regarding his Be Seen and Heard©2.0 curriculum. To view, please go to: Peace of Mind Video for Parents - English Peace of Mind Video for Parents - Spanish
For any questions about the content of the program or Erin’s Law, please contact Carolyn Stadlman in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment at (815) 788-5036.
Thank you!
Mrs. Tilton (STEM teacher)

A Message from Husmann's PTO
Are you looking for a fun way to get involved in your child’s school? Neal Singleton is looking for someone to assist him with preparing lessons for Arts Alive. Our students LOVE Arts Alive—wouldn’t you love to be a part of something great? Please email husmannpto@gmail.com if you are interested.
Sadly, our yearbook committee chairperson is moving on to middle school at the end of this school year. She has done (and continues to do) great things with our yearbook (including starting yearbook club) and is looking to pass on her knowledge to someone else before she goes. If you have an interest in photography, love being in the school to take pictures, and want to learn more about the process of creating the yearbook, please email husmannpto@gmail.com. Without a chairperson, we won’t have a yearbook next year, and we know no one wants that to happen. Come to a yearbook club meeting on Monday mornings at 8:15 in the LMC to check it out and learn more!
HPTO would like to thank all of the families who donated to the conference lunch/breakfast. We appreciate your support! Stay tuned for information regarding snack pack orders and HPTO’s virtual movie night!
