Principal's Report
Welcome Back!
Welcome back to school for 2019 and the beginning of the second semester! My family and I had a restful and celebratory winter break and I hope yours was the same. As we enter the second half of the year, I want to thank parents in advance for your ongoing efforts in support of your child's education. Simple things like checking book bags at night, monitoring student grades in 2-5 through the Parent Portal, attending conferences, and talking about the day play such a vital role in the success of students. Our reading specialists also have helpful tips for you when reading with your child at home. I encourage everyone to recommit yourselves to these simple yet powerful parent responsibilities as we enter the new calendar year. Thank for all you do for Oakview and our students!

An Updated Space for Teachers
Kids going back to school means that teachers and staff go back too. This past fall, the administration at Oakview wanted to update a tired, outdated teacher's workroom. The Oakview Tech girls, Holly Rushton and Sarah Hollingsworth, were psyched to take on the job and make the teacher's space a little fresher and brighter.
After asking for input from the staff, the overall responses pointed to a “grown up” space. A neutral vibe using soft greens, blues, and grays provides a relaxing feel in the room. Comfy chairs were added in hopes of the teachers getting off their feet, even for just a minute of their day! New work tables, tools and supplies were added as well. The project was completed in November. Our amazing teachers' reactions have been priceless and they are enjoying their new, cozy space.

Business Partners needed for STEM Night
Oakview’s STEM Breakout Night will be Thursday, March 7, 2019, and we need your help! We are looking for businesses who are in related science/technology/engineering/math fields in our community! With such a growing interest in STEM careers, Oakview’s STEM Night is an optimal time to share what these local companies do with our families. If you know of a STEM business or are connected to one, here are three different ways businesses could partner with us that night:
Set up a small demonstration/activity for parents/students to stop by and visit to learn more about your connection to the STEM field
Provide us with materials and/or a display related to your company’s STEM connections to display in our cafeteria for you.
Donate an estimation jar filled with an item (or items) of your choice, such as candy or small prizes, to our estimation station for students to test their math skills. Closest estimate wins the jar which would be labeled with your business name or logo.
