What Will School Look Like?
The sections below are intended to provide our families with some information about how the school day and school year will look at this time.
***However (you got it - here comes the disclaimer), please understand that future communication may contain more and/or different detail as circumstances are subject to change.
We can do this if we work together!
Before School
- Parents are encouraged to check their child’s temperature each day and remain home if a temperature of 100.4, or higher, is registered.
- Parents are encouraged to monitor their children for symptoms of COVID-19 and exclude their children from school if any of the following symptoms are present (atypical cough, atypical shortness of breath, fever over 100.4, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting/ abdominal pain, new onset of severe headache).
- Parents are encouraged to seek testing if primary symptoms of COVID-19 are present and students have had possible exposure or traveled out of state/country.
- A daily screening tool will be provided to parents, from the District, to assist in the monitoring of COVID-19 symptoms and provide details regarding when to keep students home from school.
Transportation
- All school buses will be cleaned before and after every bus route.
- Students and staff will be required to wear a mask at all times when riding a bus.
- Students will be required to use hand sanitizer prior to boarding the school bus. Hand sanitizer will be provided.
- Students who become sick during the day will NOT be allowed to ride the bus home from school.
Classrooms
Students will go through a regular daily schedule.
Students will maintain distancing to the maximum distance possible.
The number of students in each classroom will be similar to previous years.
Facial Coverings
- Students E5/K-5th grade will be wearing masks in classrooms. Practicing wearing masks for short periods of time will help students become more comfortable using them.
- Must cover the nose and mouth and be secured to the head with ties or straps, or simply wrapped around the lower face.
- Should fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face.
- Should be disposable or made of washable materials such as cotton, silk, or linen.
- Should include multiple layers of fabric.
- Should allow for breathing without restriction.
- Students will be given a lanyard. This lanyard will be kept at school to be worn daily and used to clip their facial covering on for times when it is not worn.
School administration and/or staff will be stationed at entry points throughout the building to reiterate the expectation of face coverings.
In instances where a student's mask is left at home, or there is a need for a new one, a disposable mask will be provided. Students who repeatedly do not wear a mask on school grounds will be educated on their importance and progressive discipline assigned. Additionally, faculty will work with students and staff as to the importance of following the Governor’s orders.
The school administrative team will serve as the COVID Points of Contact to work on compliance issues at the school level.
Students and staff must have a documented medical condition and note from their medical provider (MD or DO) for which a face covering would cause an impairment.
Students and staff may remove their face covering while actively eating.
Lockers
Facial coverings will be required to be worn at student lockers outside the classroom.
Teachers will stagger times for students to be at the lockers to promote distancing.
Drinking Fountains
- All drinking fountains will be disabled. Students are encouraged to bring their own water to drink throughout the day.
Breakfast
Students will be able to eat breakfast at school.
Students will eat breakfast in either their classrooms or in the cafeteria (4-5 in the cafeteria during the first trimester; 2nd-3rd in the cafeteria during the second trimester; K-1 in the cafeteria during the third trimester)
All students will either wash their hands or use hand sanitizer before eating.
Breakfast stations will be set up in the halls for grade levels eating in classrooms to make this easier.
Facial coverings are required in the hall and breakfast line.
Lunch
Students must wear a facial covering and have their hands washed or sanitized when walking to the cafeteria, in the lunch line, and when finished eating.
Lunch will be scheduled in the gym for two grade levels at a time. Tables will be grouped by class, and seating will be staggered to allow for distancing with designated peanut-free zones.
All tables and seats will be cleaned and sanitized by staff between each lunch period.
Students will remain seated throughout lunch.
Hot and cold lunch options will be available for purchase or students may bring a lunch from home.
Recess - CHANGE
Weather permitting, recess will be outdoors and students will have an opportunity to interact with peers from other cohorts while wearing their mask.
Specials
Supplies will be cleaned and sanitized between each class period for all specials.
Visitors
Visitors to the building will be limited.
Guests will be provided hand sanitizer upon entry.
All district staff, school-based staff, vendors, community members, and essential visitors will be required to wear a mask.
VIRTUAL LEARNING CONSIDERATIONS:
In the event that we are required to transition to a virtual learning platform for all students, we will need to have a few things in place to ensure a smooth transition.
- A system will be set up to make sure that students have the necessary technology needed for at-home learning.
- A paperless communication plan will be established (be sure that the teacher has a working email address for you and your family).
Will you have a child in E5 or Kindergarten next year?
