Japan's Forest management history
Wood has been used in Japans history for many things: Houses, Castles and Temples. They also used wood for feul in indistries and houses. This wood was not imported fom other countries as it was forbidden, therefore the only way the japenese people could get wood was to cut down trees with permission.
Logging without permission became a serious crime
Wood became very damanding as the population grew so the shogun created plantations in villages. They were responsible for planting and selling their own timber.
Today in Japan they continue the forestrymanagement.
