ELA Assessment Creation
A hands-on assessment workshop for ELA educators
Join us for a morning of breaking down ELA assessments and creating your own!
Grade 7 - 12 ELA Teachers
Workshop Description & Overview
Overview: In this session, learn how to design an aligned assessment that meets the language arts rigor required of Ohio’s Learning Standards. Using an evidence-centered design and the essential characteristics of high quality items, participants will learn how to write an aligned assessment using a bank of resources, analyze the assessment where students are underperforming or exceeding expectations, and take a stab at writing their own aligned questions. Extensive use of free technology tools will be provided to help support the assessment design process. This workshop is designed to provide an opportunity for 7-12 ELA teachers to look at common trends in the questions on state assessments, break down effective vs ineffective questions, and then apply that knowledge to current or new classroom assessments.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss through state questions with other ELA teachers. They will also have practice evaluating effective and ineffective questions and will use this to modify or create new assessments to take back and use in their classrooms.
