Larson News
News You Can Use in May
Happy May!
As we wind down our very interesting year, I hope you find time to reflect on all the positive and awesome learning that your child has experienced at Larson over the past 10 months. I am so proud of our staff and students who have shown their resiliency, flexibility, and perseverance this year. We have an amazing learning community!
While you are reflecting I would also like to encourage you to take time to say THANK YOU to our incredible staff of teachers and support personnel who have worked hard to keep our students safe and school open for all of our learners!
May 3-7 is STAFF APPRECIATION week. A simple note letting them know how much you and your child have appreciated their hard work is a big morale booster!

LOST AND FOUND
We will be spreading out the Lost and Found in the Foyer/Front Hallway from May 10-20.
Teachers will continue to give students an opportunity to look for any lost items, but If you know you are missing something specific, give Kelly O'Malley or Nurse Ramilo a call and they can take a peek for you.
All unclaimed items will be donated at the end of May.
COVID MITIGATION PLAN
Nurse Ramilo and I, want to say THANK YOU for your patience, understanding and support during this challenging year. THANK YOU families for keeping your kids home when they were sick (or if they were exposed) it made a huge difference in keeping our school open and learning happening.
Please help us these last few weeks of school by continuing to monitor your children and keeping them home if they are sick.
NURSE RAMILO's Phone: (907) 352-2305, if you have any questions related to COVID.
Helmets Please & Watch for Bikers
Any student riding a bike to school is required to wear a helmet. If your student lives in a near-by neighborhood and wants to ride, but needs a helmet, please let us know.
Bike Riders must stay at the Bike Rack in the morning until the bell rings at 9:00 am. For their safety, we have a staff member who is meeting them at the rack and releases them into the building in the mornings @ 9 and lets them go on their way, before buses in the afternoon.
Drivers please be aware of bikers in the area and especially in the neighborhood directly behind our school.
FIELD DAY (S)
We are excited to be able to have a Field Day!
We will be splitting up our Field Day this year. Wednesday, May 19 will be for grades K-2 and Thursday May 20, will be for grades 3-5. (Teachers will be sending home more information later in the month.)
By splitting up Field Day into two days and by having our students staying with their classrooms--we do not need volunteers this year. Mr. Foster and a team of teachers have come up with a rotation schedule and decided on stations that don't require much set up or maintenance but will be still be super fun.
Our FTA has rented us a Bouncy House/Slide for Thursday, May 20 and ALL students will get a chance to play on it in the gym. We have crafted a schedule allowing time inbetween classes to sanitize.
Last Day of School BBQ
We will be having a schoolwide BBQ--FOR STUDENTS--on Friday, May 21.
In the past we have asked for students at each grade level to provide items for our BBQ but this year, thanks to our Business Partners (banners on our fence as you come into Larson) & Title 1 Funds, we are able to provide the BBQ lunch to all of our students and we do not need food donations.
THANK YOU Business Partners!
Saying Goodbye/Saying Hello
Saying Goodbye
Mrs. Bowen has been teaching for 31 years and has been our music teacher for the past 9. She has decided it is time to retire and plans to spend time with her family full time. We will miss her wonderful grade level, band and choir performances!
Mr. Diaz is also retiring. He has been teaching for 25 years and we were lucky to have him at Larson for the past two years. He will be spending time with his family, his dogs and being in nature.
Mrs. Lund will be taking a year’s leave of absence to spend time with her children/family.
Miss Batterson is moving back to Minnesota, where she is planning to continue teaching.
All of these teachers will be greatly missed at Larson, and we wish them all the best in the future!
Saying Hello
We are welcoming Mrs. Kimber Grenier as our new Music Teacher. Mrs. Grenier has worked in Elementary and Middle School Music programs and we are excited to have her join our team.
A warm welcome to our new Eagles: Mary Godfrey, Hannah Stiner and Wendy Pitney, will all be joining our Larson Teaching Team in the fall.
Sneak Peak for Fall
Arrival and Dismissal will remain the same process in the fall. Doors will open until 9:00 am. No students will be allowed to be dropped off prior to 9:00 am --unless there is a school sponsored activity. This policy was put in place due to our new School Safety protocols regarding our Building Security, not just because of COVID. Our doors will continue to remain locked during the school day and anyone coming to school will still need to use the doorbell to enter.
We will go back to our NORMAL school day with school starting at 9:15 and ending at 3:45. This year we had a 15-minute early dismissal due to COVID, next year we are planning to go back to our teaching of bell to bell.
Next Fall Parent Pick Up will begin at 3:45 and buses will be leaving the school grounds between 4:00 & 4:05. As we get closer to school start up in the fall, we will provide this information again.
Yes, we will continue to use School Dismissal Manager! Thanks for doing such a great job learning our new system and making it such a smooth pick up process. As the year has gone on, our lines have gotten shorter and our average time for curbside pick up is 19 minutes from loading our first car with students to the last.
Enrollment Update
Registration for next year begins July 1.
Please plan to register your students early, this helps us with creating class rosters.
THANK YOU FOR A GREAT YEAR!
