Assuring Learning Excellence and Readiness for a Changing World
I hope you had a wonderful long weekend. The colors were fantastic! Here we go...9 days to the end of quarter 1.
Congratulations to our Scarlet National Merit Scholars! Lucas Guo is a semi-finalist, while Justin Qualley, Isabel Lorenz, and Dan Egli are all commended scholars.
Congratulations to Coach Makela our statebound Girls Soccer Team! This is their 3rd section championship in a row. It is exciting to see our students experience success in and out of the classroom.
Just a reminder of the goal we are all working toward - all students graduating on time, college, career, and life ready! Seniors were measured for caps and gowns last week. Thank you, Mr. Sipe for your help with the seniors!
IMPORTANT ASSIGNMENT FOR ALL TEACHERS
There are two trainings that all teachers must complete, all other staff members are encouraged to complete the trainings.
Please allow 30 minutes or less to complete both training presentations.
There will be a one question survey at the end of each presentation to ensure that everyone has viewed the training material.

College Knowledge Day
College Knowledge Day is Tuesday! All seniors will be provided the opportunity to come to the Media Center and visit various college and career stations. Please be respectful of students receiving passes and allowing them to go to the media center at their assigned time. Our counselors have worked hard to pull together many beneficial resources for our seniors as they plan for life beyond high school. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
The first station will give students information about career options (college, work, military) for anyone who is uncertain which path to take after high school
The second station will be in the computer lab, students who are ready to apply for college and request their transcript will be able to do that with the support of admissions officers from area colleges and West staff
Students will be given information about scholarship options as well as have the opportunity to work on their FAFSA if not already completed
All students who participate in any of the above activities will be given the chance to enter our drawing for college gear

Engagement and Collaboration
Game On! I am visiting classrooms with 3 more teachers this week. If you would like to join me on a Thursday, just let me know.
Attendance Team Update:
The Attendance Team will meet weekly on Tuesdays at 9:00 AM. During the meeting, attendance issues will be discussed, including but not limited to: students with 4 or more unexcused absences , students with 7 or more excused absences, and students with other issues around school attendance. If you have a student you are concerned about, feel free to reach out to a member of the team. Additionally, in order to increase transparency and to communicate pro-actively, we will communicate any plans or pertinent information to teachers whose students we discuss, and will post an overview of each meeting on the staff resource website.
PBIS Team Update:
Looking for a few more good people. The PBIS team held its first meeting this week. The team decided that we will be meeting monthly on Thursday Mornings at 7:45 to review data and develop ideas and plan activities aimed at positively engaging students and staff in our school community. We would love for you to join us in our efforts! Next meeting Thursday, October 4th at 7:45 AM in the office conference room. Contact Mike Elston if you are interested.
